Looking at his inventory it seems that this is a Used Book Store guy. Probably not a good one to be buying comic books from.
Looking through his feedback, my eye was caught by the title of this book that somebody purchased:
Dominated By My Wife; Brandon's Extreme Diaper Punishment

Yeah, I wouldn't even bother with that one. I don't think the picture is even a picture of the actual book being sold, but a stock image of some sort.

How exactly did they decide that $31 wasn't enough, but $32 was too high...so $31.80 was the perfect asking price??

Oh Mile High. How you've fallen even further into less than mediocrity. I still used MHC up until about a year ago. Filling runs was fairly inexpensive (cheap still wouldn't be the right word) with any of the various 40%-60% off "codewords". Once the boom happened, their prices went even higher somehow. While I generally don't buy much from MHC, I don't understand how Chuck keeps it going. I filled my Alpha Flight, Excalibur, various mini series, X-Men series runs all in the last few years. Now, I wouldn't even attempt to order from them.

Absolutely hard to tell the condition from that 8-bit image.

Yeah, I'm going to block him also. I'm used to MCS offering front scans on some of their raw back issues and using stock images for moderns or low grade older books. I don't recall them listing any comic for over $20 without a scan. They might do it on modern variants or ratios. Regardless, to offer ANY book for $78 and using just a stock image is ludicrous in my opinion. I found this on that listing and it just convinced me more not to buy from him. I like the part about the cover may be different.

There's no question that none of us should be buying comic books from this dealer. But he has other items I could be interested in and I'm not planning to block him. Who knows when I might want a book on Diaper Bondage. Seriously, in his defense: He has over 2 million items listed. That could lead to a lot of Ebay inquiries each day. Most of the stuff he's listed doesn't lend itself to asking questions, so answering questions that didn't need to be asked probably got annoying. He probably found, as I found a long time ago, that people who send you questions about condition of an item are not all that likely to actually buy your item.

@poka One of the ironies that catches my eye is a really specific price, down to the penny...combined with "Make Offer" option.

Avoid booksfromca

They sell rare books and also some nice (high $) comics.

They are dishonest in their practices. I purchased a Showcase 4 CGC 4.0 from them. They assured me, in-writing, that they would overnight it. This was prior to agreeing to a price and making the deal and all through ebay messaging. Booksfromca instead cheaped out and issued a 2 day priority label instead. About a day before physically sending the book I reached out to booksfromca multiple times asking why they didnt choose overnight as agreed (the two options we agreed to were fedex overnight or usps 1 day priority). They “assured me” it was going out overnight blah blah blah… I told them again and again this wasnt what the label they issued said and that they need to make sure it is overnight as agreed.

booksfromca insisted and THEN physically sent the book out … and continued to insist until it was physically too late to change it.

They then said they were mistaken blah blah blah…

Thankfully my “not cheap” book arrived safe and sound but the agreed terms were ignored to save maybe $50…

Left neg feedback describing exactly the exchange and ebay “hid” my feedback within 2 hours.

After several days of dealing with ebay “support” they (ebay) ultimately put - in writing - that my feedback was accurate and should NOT have been hidden but it could not be reversed.

Seeing other reviews on booksfromca they clearly try to save a dollar here and there to the detriment of ANY buyer, even in the tens of thousands price point.

Happy part is I love the book itself but I highly recommend being extremely careful or outright avoid.

oh and the seller is booksfromca if anyone missed that…

Not smart of booksfromca given I probably average $10k a month in online purchases… not smart for ebay either because I am pretty sure it is a CRFA violation and I happen to know a LOT of very high priced lawyers (who were classmates of mine …)

@Davethebrave 10k a month. You couldn't by chance pick me up and gift me a marvel spotlight 5 😂

Jokes aside you sound like a big fish in the comic book collecting world.

Any dealer with half a brain would give you the service you deserve with what you are buying and spending.

Saving $50 bucks on a showcase 4 is a dumb play.
Not a lot of collectors that can buy a book like that.

@Davethebrave My initial thought was that this infraction is not at the "disqualification" for me to block a seller. But then I looked at their feedback. Feedback is ok, but it looks like they sold about 800 items in the past month. If you added them all together, those 800 items would probably not equal the total of this one sale. You would think they would trip over themselves to be accommodating. Best guess is that they are selling it on consignment and the negotiation took away most of their keep from the sale. They just decided that saving the $50 was worth the potential for ramifications. They probably made this decision during the negotiations, regardless what they agreed to. So yeah, I wouldn't trust them either. They also use "CGC it" in a couple raw book titles in violation of Ebay terms.

A bit insane for a raw copy but likely a fake bid. There's a cgc 6.5 for less.

I didn't know the first print was selling for that much (looks to be between $1100-$1400 on ebay depending on auction or BIN). It's one of the few #1's I was actually able to get in the LCS. Usually the turd burglar profiteers come out of their parent's basements at 1100am on Wednesdays to buy all the #1 grails of anything new. Maybe I should get mine graded.

There's a few I've found recently with pretty nicely priced books, uncanny_stash being the main one. They have a lot of modern graded 9.8s but also some older books. I think right now they have some older xmen...I've seen AMS and avengers and FF as well.

Bought I think 4 or 5 slabs from them now, all at great prices. They were shipped quickly and packaged well.

Edit : also, walkin_willie. Slabs all seem priced nicely and free shipping - and for those who prefer cbcs slabs, from what I've seen has all cbcs slabs for sale, and I've seen a few so far at 9.9-10.

I bought a few books from uncanny_stash years back. They tended to be overgraded. Not egregiously, but enough that it turned me off. Happy to hear that they do slabs now.
