Nothing Goofy about this: Probably not a profit opportunity but if anyone wanted to start and X-men collection with some of the key books (and you're not very condition conscious) this may be one of the few opportunities to do so affordably, depending where it ends up: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Marvel-UNCANNY-X-MEN-50-95-97-101-106-110-129-132-Ann-3-1st-Phoenix-STERANKO/154399945159?hash=item23f2f431c7:g:j38AAOSwkY1gZ58l |

This is downright laziness on whoever is bidding on this. It doesn't take much effort to learn that a substantial color breaking crease on the front cover will bring this far below a 9.0 grade by itself. What grade would you give this? https://www.ebay.com/itm/CAPTAIN-AMERICA-117-1ST-FALCON-NM-9-0-ORIGIN-FALCON-COLON-not-CGC-1969/114753116664?hash=item1ab7d199f8:g:EdYAAOSwCmhgahT2 |

@flanders One of the very first threads I started on this Forum was inspired by coasttocoast reselling the same books over and over. As you can see, the thread did not really go in the direction I had intended: https://forum.cbcscomics.com/topic/9663/page/1/ebay-red-flags/#9 |

@Bronte I was going to suggest a Tank Girl 1, 1991. Then I went to ebay and looked. Man am I glad I grabbed mine when I did!!! There is a CGC 7.0 with the asking price of $199!!! There are three CGC 9.8's with asking prices of $1,399, $1,440 and $2,600!!!! The CBCS 9.0 is in an auction at $102 bid with 5 days left!! You might be able to get a decent raw for around $200.

Thank you. I would never have thought of that. Let me look into it. In the meantime, 1 book popped up that I thought was kinda interesting. It was a swamp thing, signed by bernie wrightson. Although I know COAs aren't worth a crap but this one is from lone star comics. / mcs.... Does anybody have any thoughts on how legitimate their signatures are? |

Artists and writers have been pulling this kind of clever "hidden meaning" and "double entendre" stuff forever. Anyone read Shakespeare? |

Buggering a kid on the cover of a Superman comic? Please. The culture was completely different in the 70's anyway ... it absolutely wouldn't occur to anyone who had anything to do with comics at the time. The sensibilities of the era wouldn't even consider something as vile as Superman raping a young boy. |

@Tedsaid, the simplest explanation is often correct. This was in the days before comic book stores and subscriptions. I think the cover was meant to catch eyeballs. It was meant to get people to pick it up off the newsstand and read the dialogue to get an explanation for what they were seeing. That would take them halfway to the purchase. By the way, this artist had done a lot of Jerry Lewis covers, those had subtle humor and double entendre. I would have less respect for the artist if the perception were completely innocent and unintentional.

I still had about a month before I *had* to switch over, but I moved to eBay-managed payments over the weekend. I sold a couple things, so I'm able to see straightforwardly what the fees are, and it's 13% and change. Basically the same as eBay plus Paypal. Pros: it's nice to just have the fee taken out off the bat instead of paying it a month later when I get invoiced. But maybe it won't be a big deal in the long run. Cons: I had to open a new bank account since neither my wife nor I want my comic stuff cluttering up our usual account. Then, even though I made it my 'preferred for selling costs' account, eBay is still using my Paypal account to pay for shipping fees. So I'm using two accounts just for eBay. I also had to wait a couple days for eBay to process a payout to my account, which will itself take a couple days. Instead of instant money on Paypal, I have to wait 4-5 days after I 'get paid'. On the whole, not very compelling. |

You can switch your accounts from Paypal to Ebay balance to pay for the shipping fees. Ebay will deduct the fees from your balance and send the rest to your bank. Once the payment system is up and running with a few issued payments, the payout is more like 1-2 days before it hits your bank account. |

I hate the idea of being forced to switch. Just a money grab from eBay. And waiting 2-3 days sucks, once you are used to the instant payout. I don't know why the hell eBay keeps pretending that they are faster than PayPal ... it's such an obvious lie, I don't know how they are rationalizing it. But I do like the fees coming out right away. I always thought it was a stupid move, and a pain, to invoice once a month, instead of just taking it right away, off the top. The only thing worse than paying a high eBay fee is paying five or ten together, a month later. Also, I just won an auction last night, and I haven't been able to pay yet using PayPal. PayPal is still an option for buyers, of course. And the seller said he switched to managed payments some months ago. But for some reason, for this one store, it's broken. The technical support at PayPal said they have been getting TONS of calls on similar problems. Meanwhile, eBay technical support said, hmm, I've never heard of that happening, there's not a report or anything, but I'll submit a ticket, we'll see what we can do. |

I’ve been watching a X-force 2 that was $75 or $80. I was going to buy it only to see it was repriced at $125 a month later. A few weeks go by and now it’s at $175? I thought price drops were the norm when product doesn’t move not price increases.

I think I just sold my last book on eBay. I don’t understand the market at all right now. I list 3 books from my last 2 subs. 2 out of 3 books I break even. The last sold for 56 plus shipping; after grading and shipping both ways I’m not losing money, but damn. “FMV” has been $130-$150. I even watched sales prior to listing and all broke $100. I’m not trying to get rich, but why?
