I'd like to say I still turned out alright, but that would be a lie. flanders private msg quote post Address this user
I'm sure the guy at MCS that had a X-Men #268 9.8 SS Stan Lee and Claremont was happy I offered $350 on his $695 listing. The offer was declined and it's now listed for over $1100. I had no intention of paying $695 for it, and what if he countered $400? I'd be upgrading to a SS 9.8 for about $150. I'm happy someone may be making more money on the book now b/c of my offer.

I also messaged the person who previously offered $200 for my copy yesterday with a link to a MCS listing that actually had a CBCS 9.8 for $195 on Ebay and explained they could go to the MCS site directly and get it for $170. Hopefully they listened. I see that it was already sold when I looked this morning.

It's definitely a great feeling to be tipped off and to also pass the info on.

Dang, you're so kind. I would have bought that copy up in a heartbeat if I saw them selling for $400! But to me the real lesson is if you really want something, jump on a good price, don't try to get a few extra bucks assuming that the seller won't look up recent sales before responding.

@EbayMafia so would I, it was listed for $695 though. I was hoping the seller would accept my $350 offer or possibly counter for much less than $695. Maybe if he was a stubborn old fool that still used overstreet I would've had a chance.

I also would've listed it under your new thread, before making an offer to tip the seller off. I do feel that $695 was a bit high to suggest it to anyone though, especially after taxes and fees.

You mean that Usagi? I have no idea what I'm willing to bid on it yet, there's a few others ending before yours so we'll see.

@flanders I was talking about the $170 book that you referred your potential buyer to. That was nice of you. I would have been tempted to grab it for a quick flip.

@EbayMafia oh, that's what you meant.....well I screwed that one up. Next time I find a deal I'll be sure to put it in your thread.

You can still buy 11 CBCS 9.6's at reeces comics for $60 each. Maybe call them up and get a bulk deal.

Question. I sold some gold rings on ebay and after the guy checked with jewler they aren't as high quality as he was hoping for. I never made any claims as to the karat. I sold him previous pieces and apparently he was quite happy with making out on those. I got offers after I sold it telling me I ripped myself off by pricing too low.

Now he is asking me to make it right. My thoughts are I'll give him a partial refund because it's the right thing to do, but to be honest, he made out previously. I did not ask him how much profit he made.

He bought the rings with zero description in the information field and gave me positive review already. I don't think there is anything he can do to me. Although I feel bad, I told him I deal with comics and know nothing about jewlery PRIOR to all auctions and he purchased with that in mind.

I think he said they are 14k vs 18k he assumed they were. I literally never stated anything in the description field. I told him to let me deal with my father and I would get back to him tonight. (Currently I am in hospital recovery room with father)

So my question is, you take the good with the bad when you buy sight unseen. If you made out like a bandit on round one and you break even on round two, how much can you really b@tch about given the situation? As mentioned I am giving him a partial refund when my own finances clear. For perspective the rings were sold at 550$ for a pair of jade gold rings.i was offered over 50$ on completed auctions because I priced too low....

Edit.

I emailed ebay asking what my rights are just in case...

If you have other rings to sell and think he would be in there, I guess it couldn't hurt to offer something to keep up good relations. But in general I would say it's on the buyer for assuming things you didn't post.

@xkonk

The last I sold him was last I owned, I have no future dealings with him except for this issue.

I kinda feel the same as you. He is just upset he didn't get more blood outta the stone...

My opinion is, it's all on the buyer. If I felt you/I did anything at all wrong, you/I would try and figure something out to help. I just don't see that you did anything wrong here therefore there is nothing to "make right". my 2 cents

I just emailed him saying that him assuming what they were is his fault but I would give a partial refund. I reminded him in the past he was not hesitant to ask for more info and that if it was a concern he should have asked me to check it out while the jewler had it. If he is acceptable to my offer let me know. If not we can discuss it further but ebay probably won't side with him because he bought it with no description in the field and I have it set for no returns.

We shall see how he reacts....

I definitely did not need this after spending the day in hospital with my dad....

Edit

He is happy with my offer. And will allow me to make a transfer when my finances are clear to do so.

NO NO NO NO NO...please @Bronte get this person out of your life. I strongly suggest that you tell him that you will honor your offer of the partial refund but if he takes it you will block him from buying any of the future jewelry that you offer. See how he responds to that. I bet he's going to ask you what else you have. These are just my suggestions, I don't mean to tell you what to do. But these jewelry/gold hunter guys are something else. They go to all the garage sales every saturday morning... "got any jewelry?"..."got any jewelry?". They prey on peoples ignorance of value. Right now he figures you're a soft touch who's short on knowledge and can be taken advantage of.

@Bronte - do you think he would contact you and offer you more money if they were 24 karats instead of 18 karats.

What done is done but personally I would not have offered him any refund.

Btw - why are you selling gold on the internet. The buyer you sold to will probably sell to a shop which melts gold. Are you sure you could not get a better price by selling to a shop yourself?

@EbayMafia
My word is my bond. So I will give him back a partial refund. I have no other jewelry to sell so I will never hear from him again.

@poka
Because I don't know any better and figured although I ask a bunch of stupid questions on tbe forum, there has to be a limit on what types of stupid questions I ask?

So i was looking at some modern ASM keys on eBay. There are raw copies of 300 & 361 going for more than graded copies!? Seriously; a raw at $990 with less than 24hrs left and perfectly good 9.6s with no activity at $100 and less. WTF. I’m watching a few of the lonely CGC copies while those raws burn in the fire 🔥

I don’t know the purpose but if you look at the details of the photo-shopped cover its kind of clever, makes fun of several speculation bubbles at once.

Yep a joke listing, I read it to my wife and we both laughed, I've told her the price jump on books over the last 12 months and she can't believe it either.
She said you are still collecting romance and your may 72 books still and I said yes.
They aren't spec books 👍
