That Usagi #1 is a bargain compared to this one:

Should I sell or hold? I received an offer for $200 yesterday, looked up prices and saw that two sold for $400 each on 3-6 so I decided to decline the offer and raise the price. I received an offer for $350 today but am utterly confused. Should I be selling any keys? Is this even a key? Why is this selling for so much? Thanks for the advice.

I also noticed Wolverine Captain America Black Widow "together again" for the "first time" makes no sense. If they're together again it wouldn't be the first time they're together. What is going on here?!?! Does this mean it's the first time since the last time they were together?

@flanders not sure. Going back to the 1990s, it was always a $20 book in NM condition. I think it's one of those Jim Lee covers people like plus I think he became the regular series artist with that issue. Still, $400 is a tidy sum. I have a 9.8 newsstand of it that I could probably milk for $800.

Edit: Uncanny X-Men #251 9.8 sold for $600+. Cool cover but definitely not a key by any means.

If the viagra is working you should be well over a 9.8. xkonk private msg quote post Address this user
It isn't a key per se but a pretty popular Jim Lee cover. If memory serves, they're 'together for the first time' because it's a flashback issue.

Here's the synopsis of the book. Basically, in 1941, Cap and Logan saved Natasha from the Hand. Also, the original art for the cover sold for $300,000 in December. Other than that, I have no clue.

@flanders - I is actually a really good cover that gets my attention every time I see it an makes me contemplate buying one back. I think you are right to hold out for a higher price. IMHO.

Totally agree. It's one of the issues I buy NM copies of whenever I come across them.

All X-men books up to Bishop’s first appearance have gone bonkers just in the past month. Just compare sales from January to now. I blame WandaVision and spec buyers looking forward to more stimulus money. X-men #129 was averaging $425 about a month ago. It’s recently been selling for about double that. If you’re looking to sell X-men books, it’s a great time to do it.

People get caught up in the bidding process. You have two people who throw out equally high final bids and there you go.

What's the general consensus about using ebay sold listings to determine FMV nowadays? Is the data inaccurate since it is too easily manipulated? It seems like a handful of high volume sellers could easily inflate sales prices without ever completing the sales transaction. If a sale is cancelled or a buyer never pays after it's sold on Ebay, does it still show up under sold listings or does Ebay remove it from their site? What's to stop a few of us on this forum from driving up the value of our own comics by using this method, other than the fact that we're not complete scum?

Personally I try and base my prices close to sold auctions. My thinking is if it was an auction, people should be willing to bid about the same amount they did on prior auction.

If it was buy it now, it could be a one off, but I try and get the same or close to the other guy. If I need money I aim a few bucks lower than last buy it now....

The same thing can be done with GPA. Take a handful of dealers who report to GPA selling books back and forth to each other and there you go.

People are buying property in the MCU as if they can actually live there. And I think there's something to that. During the housing bubble people in Phoenix would buy 4-5 units in a condo development and resell them for 50% more before they ever got built. In the lockdown the MCU and it's future potential kind of became a substitute for the real world and it's future potential. It was incredibly coincidental that Disney Plus and Mandalorian were only 4 months old when schools shut down on March 15 2020. Helped by the lockdown, Disney plus is now 3 years ahead of schedule, reaching 90 million subscriptions last month! As was discussed in another thread, lets see what happens when there's a real universe to live in again and there are more ways to spend money.

I just love that people tip you off to price movement by making offers. Do they really think we are not going to look up recent sales before accepting an offer? I love how the little bit of extra greed kills it for the buyer. I had that with a Cap 117. Priced it around $450 and got an offer on Super Bowl Sunday for about $420. I looked up the sales that day and raised the price to $700 and immediately bought a slightly lower grade for $400. I sold the original book a week later for $650. It just seems so fitting when a buyer tips of a seller by trying to get a little more than the good deal that's right in front of them.

I'm sure the guy at MCS that had a X-Men #268 9.8 SS Stan Lee and Claremont was happy I offered $350 on his $695 listing. The offer was declined and it's now listed for over $1100. I had no intention of paying $695 for it, and what if he countered $400? I'd be upgrading to a SS 9.8 for about $150. I'm happy someone may be making more money on the book now b/c of my offer.

I also messaged the person who previously offered $200 for my copy yesterday with a link to a MCS listing that actually had a CBCS 9.8 for $195 on Ebay and explained they could go to the MCS site directly and get it for $170. Hopefully they listened. I see that it was already sold when I looked this morning.

It's definitely a great feeling to be tipped off and to also pass the info on.

Dang, you're so kind. I would have bought that copy up in a heartbeat if I saw them selling for $400! But to me the real lesson is if you really want something, jump on a good price, don't try to get a few extra bucks assuming that the seller won't look up recent sales before responding.

@EbayMafia so would I, it was listed for $695 though. I was hoping the seller would accept my $350 offer or possibly counter for much less than $695. Maybe if he was a stubborn old fool that still used overstreet I would've had a chance.

I also would've listed it under your new thread, before making an offer to tip the seller off. I do feel that $695 was a bit high to suggest it to anyone though, especially after taxes and fees.
