@xkonk Sales tax avoidance makes the most sense. Being in Florida I don't have to ever pay tax for some reason when I buy stuff off ebay..... |

@Bronte the only time I get buyers asking to go off eBay is because they want a discount. Avoiding sales tax is probably on the list now for some folks who have to pay it. I tend to ignore messages that ask me to go off eBay when it is sent through eBay's message system.

@Studley_Dudley This one guy messaged me. My book was not taking offers. I decided to listen and ended up haggling with him. We negotiated on a price and when I sent him the offer we agreed in he said I want to do it off ebay. I told him I wasn't interested... |

Ebay has every right to protect their interests. I guess it's just an odd way to police their site. I guess you have to keep up with those that try to skirt the system any way you can.

Quote:Originally Posted by Bronte It's not a sting operation, they monitor the language in the messaging, most likely through a program looking for certain words and looking for phone numbers or email addresses. With most sellers if you can buy off-Ebay you should save about 10% (selling and payment fees) plus the sales tax, so more like 20%. That's why most sellers who post Ebay listings here offer 10% less for sales through the forum. @Bronte I'm pretty sure your customer was going to try to hit you up for a 10% discount once he got the conversation off the Ebay platform. |

I don't think it was a sting operation or anything. It just happened that I made the sale to some guy in Hawaii, sent the books there, then a day or two later I got a warning. I just assumed that someone at ebay was monitoring the message traffic. Maybe something flagged their system.

@EbaySeller We already agreed on the price. I went down, he went up. Met in the middle. There wasn't anything else to discuss except payment. Trying to discount on top of what we agreed would have just pissed off everyone. Pretty sure tax had to be the mitigating factor. |

Welllll.....I know CGC will slab a page..but it just gets the "PG" - no grade. What if I wanted to know the "grade" of the page that was ripped/cut from a book..what would I do??? So....some CPA grading (Comic Page Authentications)...just seems off to me. Looks like they have only been around since late October 2020 and this link is to an ebay listing from the same town that the company is from.....nothing odd there Couldn't possibly be that someone just got a heat sealer and a laser printer to make their own product and then call it something official sounding and proceed to sell items they themselves "graded" I think I might jump on this bandwagon....gonna start buying cheap coverless copies of key books and then sell them off page by page in what looks like a mylite or one of those 8X10 holders for autographed photos, that has been laminated. Could I crack this, press and re-submit to get a 8.5??? clickable text ![]() |

I just got an email saying that the book was damaged and he is DEMANDING 45$ to resubmit, to cgc reholder. I did buy insurance on the book. I honestly don't see how it got damaged, the way I pack the book it would be impossible to have damage he took pictures of. Any suggestions on how to deal with this? I'm thinking just submit to post office to use insurance I already paid for. |

@Bronte I would ask photos of the box, whenever I have had issues with ebay and something damaged usually the box is damaged as well. But that seems an odd place to have damage.

So to damage the book, it would have had to pierce outer box and the priority box the book was in as well.![]() |

Honestly I think he wants to resubmit to CGC for press and regrade. The outer box is barely nicked. I purposely ship with the book in a USPS priority box and leave space so that if a hit were to occur, the box would shift vs take brunt of impact. I'm tempted to just give him 15$ and tell him to ship book back to me. Edit. Even in his original mail he said it was packed well Hi Unfortunately the case was damaged in delivery Super surprised that happen since you boxed it up very well I can resubmit it to cgc to be reholder. Please refund me $45 to do that $30 for shipping each way and $15 for the reholder Please email me back on what you like to do thank you Edward |

Tell them the buyer is using feedback to try to extort a resolution that you do not offer. Hopefully they will take care of the feedback and maybe even warn the buyer. |
