This is the invoice from last night.
My winning bid $165.
Plus buyers premium bumps it up to $198
Then add shipping
Then sales tax on top of that.
Then I'll be charged a additional $6 for credit card processing fee.
Whenever I bid on heritage I always keep in mind the fees so I'm still just a smidge under say go collect FMV

On your heritage win I hope it was supposed to be 320 and not 3200?

First...it was 1100 and 1300 for those two books (sounds like I over paid judging by your comment )

Then...they hit me with 800 in fees and taxes...absurd!!

Oh, I misunderstood your post. I thought you meant you paid $2400 in bids and then *another* $3200 in fees, which seemed obviously wrong. You meant it was $3200 total. Even so, I'm with you that $800 in add-ons is quite a shock. Do you have a breakdown of how much is shipping, tax, and buyer fee?

here's a quick pic of the sale....I circled what the books sold for and the total is at the bottom. it all makes sense, it's more about the sticker shock at the end of the day. That's a pretty big difference and I probably should have been patient and grabbed these in a sales group or CGC boards because 3300 would have bought a lot lot of book compared to what I got ..hard lesson, but now I know to be patient

@Watcher I can confirm that GoCollect's FMV #'s do not include any auction house fees. It's straight cost of the books won. So no inflated valuations.

@Watcher yep. You really have to keep in mind when bidding on heritage the buyers premium then the sales tax for your state and the credit card 2.5%.

@Watcher the credit card fee is a bit much (who wouldn't just accept credit cards and bake it into their pricing these days?), but there aren't many places you can find to not pay taxes any more. Seems reasonable to me overall. But I get the sticker shock; my comiclink buy was 8 auctions when I expected to win maybe 1 or 2.

I can imagine...I thought for sure I was only winning 1 if any...never thought id win both...but now that I understand the fees it explains why I was high bidder ..everyone else factored in those additional expenses already.

Its not really the straight cost of the books won though..cause you are still paying that extra to get that comic book anyways you slice it. You aren't getting the books without paying it either...it isn't optional.
Aside from others bidding against you know those costs will be added and it is affecting their informed decision how and what to bid...so the best wording would be the BASE cost of the book, before the added fees, which then gives you the straight cost of the books. Cost is cost, moving it under a different name doesn't hide or remove it.
GPA reflects the buyers premium on books you win, because they are part of the price you are required to pay and are told in advance. If you bid ten dollars less to stay within a price limit due to the buyers fees, that is affecting your bidding and is part and parcel cost of the comic....

I haven't gotten charged credit card fees, nor taxes through MCS...must be something about the fact they operate from the State of Texas, I am not sure.If I won 2400 dollars worth of comics and they zapped me with 200 or more in taxes, I would be pretty zapped about it too...considering MCS charges no taxes for auction wins

@Darkseid_of_town I wonder how long that will last. With eBay adding taxes, for example, it's based on where you ship them to. If you win/buy in Texas and there's no sales tax then fine, but if you win in some other state then you pay your state's sales tax.

@Watcher when you make your bid it clearly states what your bid is incl bidding premium (bp). not sure i understand how you could have missed the premium when you bid. only thing not shown would have been the tax. at least now you know why you won 😁

anyway - hope you will overcome it and enjoy the books

yes @poka...you're right..I think my issue is with the entire system...you buy a raw 1000.00 book at auction and you have to pay 1400 to have it in hand (fees, taxes, shipping) ...then you get it pressed and graded and you spend another 100-150 to get it back in hand...then say, you decide to sell because you want to use cash to upgrade and you list it in auction and pay another 10% fee (minimum) and maybe get taxed again on profit cuz the slabbed version is worth 1400.

at the end of the day, the system allows for you to be out 3 or 400.00 on a 1000.00 book that hasn't dropped in value one cent. Everyone has their hand in the pot and the only person not making money is the one who owns the book ...

It just caught me off guard (knowing all the variables) to actually see it on paper and realize I just paid 3200 for 2400 in books

I don't buy from Heritage often but as other have said you really have to keep their fees in mind. Taxes are inescapable...every state has a limit of $$ or transactions you can do as an on line seller and anything above those limits you get treated as a brick and mortar store -no more free ride on taxes.

For me the extra, extra killer is exchange - want an additional 30+% added!!!

Now who on earth would want a perfect wrap on their book?

Especially since, "Most wouldn't even consider this a miswrap" (Rolls Eyes)

Count me among those who could not give a shit about arbitrary qualifications imposed above and beyond industry grading standards. Poor newbies coming into the industry. Who knew it wasn't good enough to get a key or a high grade. Now you need also search for "The perfect wrap". Materialist Bourgeois Elitists, we are the Proletariat and we say "nay" to your perfect wrap conspiracy.
