I was hoping it wouldn't be Daniel Craig. He sucks as James Bond.

I heard Daniel Radcliffe is the new favorite to be the next James Bond.

Anyone think Bond's character will ever be diversified?

Daniel Craig is my favorite behind Connery. Radcliffe would be good. I think Craig needs to go though because he has really soured on the franchise. I know after spectre he was not a good place with it.

Sean Connery still alive? Clint Eastwood could be the bad guy.
Spoiler, they both die at the end.

What does that mean? I ask as a short guy who looks nothing like how Jack Reacher is described in the novels plays him in the movies. Casting happens. BTW, I was pleasantly surprised by the first Jack Reacher film.

Yeah, outside of Casino Royale, I couldn't care less about Craig's Bond. I loved 007 as a kid/teen. I know some people think it heresy, but, Brosnan has always been my favorite.

I’ll have to see this one.

Although, I wonder how much longer Bond will matter?

That niche for these movies seems to have been taken over by superhero movies.

Different gender and/or ethnicity. Filmmakers just seems to like changing things that don't need changing.

You can't change James Bond's gender. You can change 007's gender, though. Just a code name.

I really liked the beginning of Casino Royale. That foot chase scene was amazing. The new trailer appears to have plenty of action. Too bad it is 4 months away though.

I was introduced to the bond movies with Live and Let die and Roger Moore, who I felt behind only Connery was the best Bond we were given. These newer versions simply seem like caricatures or cookie cutter type copies of past ones.
Perhaps it is the franchise itself and the high number of films but it isn't working anymore for me .

I think unless James Bond is removed from the continuity he currently occupies, only he can be 007. He can't be replaced by another 007- Any replacement would be 008.

Now, I can see them doing that, and rolling the dice with killing off Bond in order to make it happen. I don't want it, but I can see it. They can always bring him back in a lame "no body recovered-didn't really die" scenario if a 008 attempt doesn't work.

I always got the impression that they were laying groundwork that "James Bond" and by extension, 007 was a moniker for anyone who took that role.

Maybe sort of like Men in Black, you lose your identity and work for the government.

I want to say they mentioned in one of the Brosnan ones that he was an orphan.

This is all my opinion and based on tidbits that I may remember or misremember.

I wanted to qualify that before anyone gets butthurt like the Black Widow thread.

you can always have a female 001 and 007 have a minor role in the movie

Hell yes! Love James Bond movies. As for who will play the next James Bond? Tom Hiddleston gets my vote.

You could also write a simple storyline...James bond, and a twin at birth...female James bond, trained and educated in similar fashion. Since James can be either female or a male name, it isn't a requisite the character be ONLY male.

Maybe a Jamie Bond? I've never met a female named James.

Or the British government just keeps getting orphans, and naming them James Bond (or Jamie) and that explains the different Bonds throughout the year.

I think I'd love to see Idris Elba get the role next. Might be some fun stuff to do with him.

As Wookie says, below your post, I thought that 007 was just a specific code name for a certain role - and that by extension "James Bond" was his public identity.

Idk, though. You could be correct. I haven't been into bond since Quantum of Solace. I thought that movie was God-awful. I was so bored and subsequently confused.

apparently the name can be used either way. I have met one female named James before and this person's use of the name might have been adopted rather than factual

The movies and the novels have always shown that James Bond is a person with that name. James Bond was awarded 00 status in the movies and in the novels in Casino Royale when he kills someone in cold blood as an assignment. There are other 00 agents and they are brought up in the movies and the novels. According to Flemming James Bond was the most senior of all of them.

From what has been reported, In No Time To Die, Bond is in retirement. The movie is about him being pulled out of it to team and assist the current 007 who is a female. I highly doubt her name is James Bond. The 00 number is more than likely passed from the retired/dead/injured agent to the new agent taking his/her place.

Of course Bond fans are quite familiar with the inferior 1967 version of Casino Royale where many agents both female and male were all assigned the name James Bond to confuse the enemy....so it has already been done within the shows own continuity as well.

that means while unlikely her name might be James Bond, it has precedent, and was already done before.
