Looks like some decent games for Thanksgiving. Third game will probably have less views due to excessive drinking and eating. Cleveland at Pittsburgh - another bar room brawl? SF at Baltimore - the hilight of the weekend, and loss #2 for SF. |

I'm somewhat obligated to watch the Jets vs Bengals since I already have tickets. I've been trying to not watch since the Bengals made the decision to tank, but to also tank without a plan to rebuild like acquire draft picks before the trade deadline in October. That didn't happen.

@Studley_Dudley I feel ya. At least I don’t have anymore tickets for this year. I am so disgusted with the way things are turning out for the Lions. They have had the lead in every single game this year, yet they have just 3 wins to show for it. Matt Patricia is supposed to be some kind of defensive genius, yet we are in the bottom five in every defensive category. While you can say the defense wasn’t to blame for last week’s debacle at Washington, the truth is that Haskins missed a half dozen wide open receivers, and if his play had even been competent the Lions would have gotten blown out. The biggest problem for me is that Patricia hired his good friend and mentor, Paul Pasqueloni, as defensive coordinator. The performance of the defense speaks for itself. You shouldn’t hire people for key positions based on who you like; Rod Marinelli hired his daughter’s husband to be defensive coordinator and we didn’t win a single game! Bob Quinn also bears some of the blame for hiring his buddy, Patricia, as head coach! At this point I don’t think you can fire one and keep the other. Either both Quinn and Patricia go or they both get another year. At this point I am feeling pretty bloodthirsty. It will be interesting to see what decision Mrs. Ford will make. While there is no doubt in my mind that the late Mr. Ford would have given them at least another year, I get the impression that Mrs. Ford may not be willing to accept this kind of crap. It will be interesting to see what happens.

As a Panther fan I’ll help everyone out and tell them not to pick them to win. The Redskins will probably destroy them. Panthers have to be the worst team in the NFL.

@Studley_Dudley I kinda know how you feel. I have tickets to the Panthers game Sunday. Our season is basically over and I wouldn’t be surprised if the Redskins beat us. Even if they win its to the Redskins and it’s not as exciting when there are no playoff hopes. Panthers have to be the worst team in the NFL, only winning 5 cause of CMC.

Looks like it's down to just 2 teams in each conference, Ravens, Pats, 49ers and Seahawks. Completely tired of the Pats and can't stand an egomaniac like Jackson, so I can only hope some AFC team steps up with some desire to win. Neither NFC team matters, they'll get beat in the big game regardless.

@Donnied I wouldn’t count Kansas City out. They hold a victory over the Ravens and can shoot it out with any team. Also definitely not counting out the Saints in the NFC. I think the 49ers match up very well against Baltimore. Wouldn’t be surprised if they beat them this week. Both the niners and Saints match up well against New England. Might be a little premature to hand the Lombardi Trophy to whoever comes out of the AFC.

@michaelekrupp I would like to see Brees vs Brady in the big game. That is what I think most fans wanted to see last year before New Orleans got screwed by the refs and the Rams got in and stunk it up.

Chiefs are out. Defense is horrible, Offense is average, Special teams below average, injuries and lack of depth are screwing them. The only reason they make the playoffs is because Raiders are self-destructing. Ravens will beat the Niners easily, by 20 points or more. Saints will need to pick up the pace to stay in it, but not likely.

What has me excited is the thought of Green Bay losing to the Giants. IF that happens, the Vikings could take the lead in the NFC North with a win over Seattle. Am I asking for too much? Edit - on Monday Night Football to boot! |

MNF has turned unwatchable for me. The announcing is so awful that it actually distracts me from the game.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Thought it might be fun to reflect on some of the more memorable Lions thanksgiving day games over the years. The earliest turkey day game I have a vivid memory of was back in 1979, when the Lions absolutely crushed the defending world champion Pittsburgh Steelers. I think the final score was something like 45-3. In 1983 the Lions battled back to force overtime against the hated (sorry @comic_book_man ) Chicago Bears, only for the Bears to return the overtime kickoff for a touchdown. I thought my grandfather was going to have a heart attack that day! Then there was the infamous “coin toss game” in the late ‘90s, again vs the Steelers, which actually prompted a rule change as to how the coin toss is conducted. The last thanksgiving day game I attended in person was 2016 against the Vikings, when Darius Slay picked off a Sam Bradford pass in the fourth quarter to seal the victory for the Lions. The mood was a little different in the 1996 thanksgiving day loss to the Chiefs at the Silverdome, where I remember chanting “Wayne must go!” along with thousands of other fans who had more than enough of former Lions coach Wayne Fontes. Hopefully this year’s thanksgiving day memory will be rookie QB David Blough coming off the practice squad to lead the Lions to victory against the Chicago Bears. Anyone else have any thanksgiving football memories to share? |
