That's a first print. The back cover ads on the second and third print have 1989 for the date. Normally where the barcode is on the cover Batman's head is in that box. On first prints looks like you may have a news stand copy.

I'd like to say I still turned out alright, but that would be a lie. | flanders private msg quote post Address this user
That's a first print. It would say 2nd print on the first page and the back ad would be different or dated 1989 instead of 1988.

unless it was a news stand copy then the bar code is there. Also first prints have 1988 as the date on the back cover ad. Second and third prints have 1989 for the date on the back cover ad

I'm not sure but it will indicate it on the first page: |

The way I first worded it was a little confusing

Also the newsstand is slightly more valuable since I believe starting in 1980 newsstand issues became less common.

There’s also the $1.00 Price Variant version commonly referred to as “Canadian Price Variant”. It’s the most valuable first print due to scarcity.

I forgot to mention that the $1.00 Price Variant (CPV) has a barcode as well due to the fact that Canadian Price Variants were sold at newsstands mostly, in other words, spinner racks. Supply was far more limited when it came to CPV’s.

@Ladic ..Thank you for this post...I always appreciate it when I have to dig through my collection to see first if I have a copy of the book being discussed and second seeing if mine compares to what is being discussed. My copy is a First Print but not a newsstand copy. Thanks again! Marty |

I may be wrong but this issue may have loosely inspired the animated series episode POV where Bullock, Montoya and another officer recount three stories of Batman for the same incident.
