![]() A one shot pilot, it never gained traction although she claimed later that she was in fact offered the role that was later given to Lynda Carter....I think the history of the series would have been quite different in that case |

| If you are asking me. I would say top row middle card. If she signed opposite corner it would balance. The art is also very striking. It would stand out. I like 2nd row middle card too, but the card is so dark it wouldn't showcase signature well. |

| So doing a checklist what is being sent, I am still awaiting my hardback archives book, with possible Saturday delivery and my Dc card set, that I will gut for cards to send along as page markers within said book, arriving apparently Monday. Already in place: Signed wonder woman cards Two golden age books being sent Two facsimile annuals Tomorrow I will begin working on the box within a box method of sending things as suggested by sportshot. I am of a mind I may get by with using a medium flat rate inserted inside a larger flat rate to send this...either that or a larger outer box, with a medium flat rate inside it. I need to see how heavy it all is, once boxed, but almost sure the weight will be enough to suggest flat rate moving both out and back. The main weight is caused by the Dc archives book but with some 7 of the stories inside done by Joye, its the central piece in my plan |

| I have to say its a bit nerve wracking given her age, vs the need to visit all due speed on the process vs the lack of issues and items that can be easily loaned to the process. Given her stories were done some 75 years ago, little has been reprinted relatively recently that is ....signature friendly, cost effective and attainable easily. then once you send things of value, you wonder...will it get there safely...will it work out for how you want things signed at her end...will it find its way back safely etc. End of the day its a box of gambles in hope of a small box of wonder in return literally. |

| Doing more deep research into the entire wonder woman/marston/olive byrne/Elizabeth Moulton/ story presented in the movie about Marston and his Wonder women I found some interesting information. Apparently the Moulton home was arranged in a fashion where there were two bedrooms, one used by Elizabeth his wife, the other by Olive who was the basis for the character wonder woman. The bedrooms were linked by a bathroom allowing someone to pass back and forth without entering the hallway or being seen by anyone. Though there were four children , none were even aware Marston was their father until much later in life after he was gone. There was a third woman who resided with them often, Marjorie Wilkes. it remains unclear her role in things, however she had a place to stay in the attic. She was known to do the coloring and inking for many of the stories however. Olive Byrne, who served as a living embodiment of Marstons wonder woman wore jangly bracelets that served as the inspiration for the ones wonder woman herself used. Since Marston had invented the lie detector, wonder woman's truth compelling rope was an extension of that device. Olive Byrne was niece to Margaret Sanger, the prolific pioneer in women's rights and the feminism movement....it is quite possible without Margaret Sanger we would not have birth control...she also apparently helped found Planned Parenthood. Marston was a young student on campus during the early 1900's at Harvard when a women's right advocate was refused the right to speak there...this became a theme he revisited often in early wonder woman stories. Marston felt women were chained and had to break those chains before being allowed to speak or act in our world. In wonder woman , the character loses her abilities once tied up. Her bracelets if bound can no longer protect her. Early stories in wonder woman often contained dozens of panels of women being tied up, chained, manacled or spanked. When DC comics complained to him about the barrage of theme oriented images, he doubled down ...one issue alone was alleged to have at least 76 such panels. Wonder woman , being one of three DC characters that has remained in publication constantly since the forties has lived many existing variations. Once Joye resigned from writing her stories, and got married, the writer Robert Kanigher was bestowed on the title. His previous work was war comics and he abhorred the story and character of wonder woman apparently. He would still work the comic the coming twenty years...eventually removing her invisible plane, her lasso, her powers, and even finally her costume. At one point she was a swooning dolt, that owned a Boutique and her spent time all dreamy eyed about Steve trevor and getting married. It would be into the seventies when MS. Magazine reclaimed Wonder Woman for the feminist agenda by placing her on their cover. Today the character is a blend of the previous versions, but most peole have little idea her history is so complicated, so intermixed with women's rights, and so forth. I have just begun looking at the racist aspects alledged in the stories, but I know in issue 19 wonder woman is off to Africa to confront a tribe that is allied to the Nazis and even has swastikas on their loinclothesโฆ.it is said Marston also had some racial axes to grind so that part should be interesting to research as well. |

![]() Centered apparently in his wheelchair, so post polio diagnosis, is Charles Moulton. Around his are his three sons, and his Daughter Olive, whom he has his arm around. Over his other shoulder is Olive Byrne..the the far left is Marjorie Wilkes, and far right his wife Elizabeth ![]() Next image provided by Joye Hummel at comic con ...where she was awarded the Bill Finger writing award. She was age nineteen at this time and had just begun writing wonder woman ![]() This third image is for me amazing...far left is Olive Byrne, and make note of her jangly bracelets. Beside her is Joye Hummel...speaking to her.Seated foreground is wife Elizabeth..and pictures edge is Marston himself. His expression is priceless...one has to wonder where Marjorie was for this last image, but if there were four children, perhaps her secondary role was helping with them |

| There are debates to the accuracy of the movie Marston and the Wonder Women (and, I think, the books) because there weren't diaries or anything from the time, and as @Darkseid_of_town describes there was a lot of secrecy even within the family. That said, the movie is pretty good and would be worthwhile for anyone who wants to learn about Marston and the origins of Wonder Woman. I was able to rent it on Amazon. | ||

| Yes xKonk, you are correct...and not so much debates even as outright denials from the three living children from Marston...they have complained the movie isn't factual, and they have a litany of issues they feel are incorrect...ending with the fact they were never consulted for the movie. The main book centering on the story was done by Jill Lepore and she did pretty solid research on her story.."Secret History of Wonder Woman" its an inexpensive purchase and fascinating reading if you want the entire backstory. yes secrets were kept, in fact most of the kids did not realize they were fathered by Marston until much later in life...even the layout of the home was suggestive to secrecy. The movie is fun to watch I agree...xKonk...one thing that struck me about this all... Joyes involvement in this all waited till she was ninety to surface...Marston died in 1947, and Olive and Elizabeth both are gone now...Olive at age 85 and eliabeth lived to one month past 100. Even one of the kids has died since I believe.... it almost feels like history waited till they were all gone to tell the story....it still amazes me so much of our beloved wonder woman was based on things Marston did or saw in Olive...the bracelets she wore, or the fact he invented the lie detector, aka wonder woman's lasso. Thanks for your comments xKonk Incidentally I too endorse watching the movie, xKonk is right...view it with a grain of salt as contradicting stories exist, but I have a sense much of it is on track |

I wont get to ask her those things, but I can at least preserve her work and her autograph for someday in the future |

Once it was discovered her actual name was Joye, someone altered the title of the thread quietly and without even being nudged.....thanks Jesse? | ||

| I fired off the entire story to Mr Bororock by email as requested. We have mailed BAS twice requesting information to get Joye added there with no response so hopefully he can toss an angry cat in someones lap before we lose the window of luck here. While I was typing my letter to Steve I , fittingly received my package delivered text from USPS....my package to Joye has been delivered. The box went flat rate, so no notifications, no postage due, its THERE. It is my hope that with some interest and information from BAS we can get whatever form or item she needs to write for them done, sent in and make her a valid and recognized signature they can validate, at which point mine is going in for that trip ! |

| Update ...nothing further on the BAS end of things, I attempted to search their base in case they were able to add Joye and had found examples of her writing but nothing to this point at least. I did receive an email from Jack, Joye's husband, that they have the package in hand and Joye is busy sorting through and attending that end as she can and has time. |
