Admins, if this topic is not allowed, please PM me and I'll delete it stat.

Does anyone know who or what the heck CBGC is? They appear to be a grading service, but I've never heard of them and they've got a funky looking slab.

Are they knew? Are they a fly by night? Just curious.

Last I heard, they stopped accepting comics about 6 years ago after they got a letter from the CGC lawyers.

Hmm. That's odd. I wonder what grounds CGC would have to send a legal letter...

Didnt they become PGX based on the legal threats? I feel like I heard that several years ago.

Not sure. But it doesn't take much to get them to do it. They sent CBCS a letter right after they started. The current checkmark that CBCS uses used to be a star. CGC claimed that it was too close to the star that one of their partner companies used on grading coins. Borock actually used it as a chance to hold a contest for what design to use. That is how we ended up with the checkmark.

Wow. If you can't win the market war with your quality, win it by attempting to shut down the competition with a lawsuit. Needless to say, I prefer CBCS...

Well, in fairness, there is a reasonable argument for protecting the publicly recognized symbols that are associated with your quality. The star is kind of a stretch but CGC vs. CBGC seems like a pretty blatant attempt by a new company to confuse the public and take advantage of brand awareness that another company has spent years earning and developing.

PGX used to be CGG, which is remarkably close to CGC.
You can still find these early slabs on eBay by searching “CGG PGX”

I don’t know what CBGC is or was.

Is it something like this? If so I bet the “comany” was made at kinkos and sent out from Billy Bob’s garage after being graded by Jeb.

@comic_book_man Actually, @Frontier2Xterra pointed it out first - I just hadn't scrolled down far enough to see that he had when I drew on the picture.
