Rob Liefeld to Sue Marvel?10233

Collector CatCovers private msg quote post Address this user
Liefeld is the creator of Deadpool in the same way a sperm donor is a father.

lol

This is a cover I sometimes use as an example of him not being able to draw feet. Shatterstar's left foot look "ok", so that's probably the one he'd say he messed up.
And her thighs lol

The proportions on that cover are so out of whack and the errors are centered on the cover. Not just Dominos legs, but Deadpools left thigh is laughably misproportioned. HOWEVER, it's not like that's unique to Liefeld. I will say I don't dislike this cover (or NM 98). But I'd also argue he's gotten much, much worse...almost lazy. His covers don't look like this anymore for the good parts, but the bad has gotten so much worse. Have you ever tried to swing a punch with the same arm you're in the middle of kicking with...while not training your gun on the target in front of you? No? Just checking. What position is his right hand at for that gun angle?

I like Ethan Van Sciver's work in many cases, but sometimes, his scale, proportions and perspective are seriously jacked up. New 52 Batman #1 (look at the shoulders) and Dark Knights metal Justice League #32 (WTF with the Merciless's right arm?) come to mind as freaking terrible.

@etapi65 That would make for a great weekly cover contest - egregiously bad examples of perspective.

Deadpool clearly skips the calf portion of leg day. His quad and hammy are so out of proportion to the rest of the leg. The bottom half of the left leg is longer than it should be.

Responding to the OP - It would seem that no one has any idea what Liefeld was tweeting about.

For a forum that always wants to keep things on topic one can use this thread to illustrate the opposite of that.

@Towmater lets get back on track then.
Find something on the web to help with this thread so we all get an understanding of what's going on.

And I dont mean it's a crock because Towmater said it. I mean "the forum" not wanting off topic banter mixed in is evidently inaccurate.
Unless it only applies to some.

"Off topic banter" only becomes a problem when people start to take things personally and get worked up. As long as everything is discussed civilly, off topic banter is allowed to an extent. When it gets past the "beating a dead horse" level and goes into the "making glue" stage, we might step in to lock it as nothing useful can come from it.

Thanks for the clarification. I guess, that is a judgement call. Kind of like how many push-ups a person can do and if that is something a mod takes action upon. 🙀

Glad to see that I wasn’t out of line or as some attempted to characterize my posts as “trolling”.

Funny how you failed to see all the observations and opinions on Liefeld’s ability or lack of ability to draw feet/in proportion/etc. I hope my post provides you with a better understanding of what I was writing about.

No, I saw them. That's why I referred to the banter as "mixed in". Sorry for the curve ball.

It's not too different from threads asking about ASM 129 (or whatever) that often turn into opportunities for some to show scans of their copies once the initial question has been addressed to some degree.
In this case, Liefeld actually included the word "feet" in his tweets. He HAD to have known what that would do, and the comments here were as inevitable as Thanos.

Why he's popular now is a mystery to me. Why he was popular in the 90s I think was Universally Perfect timing. Thanks to McFarlane, people were looking for something different. We got it.

Hitler made a pretty decent living at one time too. Just sayin'.

Which always has made me wonder if Liefeld isn't a master manipulator. I contend that he knew the absurd Cap would be talked about for years. I believe he can draw feet and just refuses to do so. I think he does these things to keep his name out there. Love or hate him, everyone has an opinion on him!!! That makes him relevant in the art world.

The curve ball I hit out of the park like this?...

Yep, I saw it. Saw it about as much as I saw pouches on "The Pouch" character Rob came up with to poke fun at those that poke at him.

I guess I don't get too worked up about him.

On one hand, I find his outspokenness refreshing and sorely needed. On the other, he benefited greatly from the style over substance fad in the 90s.

And, in many ways, I think Deadpool is a great example of how comic characters evolve. Rob created him as Deathstroke ripoff, and over the years, other artists and writers gave him a personality, and supporting cast.

I mean who created Deadpool? A lot of people, actually.

Part of that shared storytelling.

I'd be curious what he's planning to sue about, as well.

If there's anything that comics has taught me, it's that creators have gotten hosed by the big 2 on a pretty regular basis.

At the risk of derailing the thread again...
I've seen the "who really created Deadpool?" issue come up over and over again but never made the shared storytelling leap to other characters. Like if you ask who created Wolverine I would guess that at least 90% of people would say Len Wein. But if we're going with the Deadpool analogy (that Liefeld shouldn't get credit for creating him) the answer should be Chris Claremont, right?

You think I'm comparing the people? I'm saying that making a pretty decent living doesn't automatically deserve respect or admiration. At least not from me.
