I am just beginning to work on the full ASM run, so that's my grail. Spidey's tale is the be-all-end-all for my life as a collector and it will be a fun journey to work on until I die.

Cool- Good luck! My run stops at #375 because it's right about there that it [and Marvel] lost me.

Don't know why I've only really been interested in first appearances of villains (maybe I need to see a therapist about it). I'm particularly attracted to firsts of the "B" and "C: list villains. I once owned a first appearance of Braniac in low grade which I wish I had not sold. The two that I've looked at off and on for years but never pulled the trigger are Black Adam (Marvel Family #1), and Gorilla Grodd, which was in Flash 106. I've also looked for years but never pulled the trigger on a much cheaper book, Twilight Zone #84 with first professional work by Frank Miller.

Avengers 1 πŸ‘
Since I'm a big subby fan
Fantastic Four 4,6,9 and 14 πŸ‘
Sub-mariner 1 9.4 white pages πŸ‘
Ironman and Sub-mariner 1 9=4 white pages πŸ‘
Sub-mariner 34 9.4 white pages πŸ‘
Way I see it the 68 subbys are very common so that's why I only bought white pages.
GSX 1 πŸ‘
Uncanny X-men 94 πŸ‘
Green lantern 76 πŸ‘
And last week Jimmy Olsen 134 πŸ‘

I have other Grails but I never tell anyone what I'm chasing till I get them.

I'm not a wealthy collector, but I've managed to get most of my keys through trades and being very, very lucky at conventions. Only one left on the list now, and sadly that's the most expensive of them all.

1. Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider Man #64 (got it!)
2. Marvel Spotlight #28 (got it!)
3. (Uncanny) X-Men #10 (Silver Age) (got it!)
4. Thor #337 (got it!)
5. Werewolf By Night #32 (sadly, I'll probably never get it...)

need to sell most of my books - main goal for next year or more is to organize and either sell in batches or en masse (just over 8000 books - can likely turf 6000?)

If I do that then what I can afford jumps up.

For now looking at Planet Comics 58 probably 5 or 6 for my current budget??
If I sell books though I would go for a 9.0!!

But really in next year or two any Planet Comics book would do if the cover is right and the price!!

My interests are pretty eccentric, even for a GA collector. I'm mostly focused on specific artists and high grade rather than runs. That said, finishing out HIT Comics #1-26 in grade is a goal and I'm just over half way there. Otherwise, it's mostly Timelys ...especially Schomburg covers... and the remaining three S&K Caps, having 7 of the first 10. I've also been getting into earlier Prize Comics, especially those with Jack Binder cover art. So, grails? Alas, waaay too many.

#1) Detective 168
#2) Amazing Spider-Man 14
#3) Silver Surfer 4 (Vol 1)

Although I grabbed a bunch of keys throughout the years, I was indiscriminate in my purchases. There were always "deals" and there was always "tomorrow".

There were only 2 key books I ever "wanted."

Amazing Spider-man 6 and Detective comics 168.

I got the Spider-man I think in 2003 and sadly detective comics is not possible without a job.

@brysb nothing wrong with digital πŸ˜›
In the past I tended to stay away from buying slabs unless I had a raw copy or could attain a cheaper reading copy.
Now no worries. Everything is almost on digital. I buy a slab then pay $1.99 plus tax and download a digital copy to read on my Kindle. Even the obscure war 50s books can be found.

I have no "grails".

I'm interested in buying the following at a drastically reduced price from market value.

1) Tales of Suspense #39
2) Journey Into Mystery #83

If it doesn't happen, I don't really care. Other than those, I'll just buy what interests me in the moment. I might buy nothing. Either way, I have enough comics already.

X-Men 1-4

And then a few more.

I think you are perhaps right..odd how peoples tastes vary...myself I dumped my hulk 180-181-182 and was happy for it. I feel the books are badly overrated, far more common than people realize and overhyped....every show I attend I see dozens of copies all marked at extreme prices, and maybe once a year I see a hulk 1 by compare.

PS before the hating begins, those are just my feelings...I get that a lot of people love the character and those books..I am just speaking from my own perspective so no offense.I have also dumped three copies in a row of ASM 129 and choose not to have one. Each time I wound up buying another and then asking myself....why this book...dont like the character, or story.

I guess my grails list would be along the lines of...
older books signed by Kirby
x-men 4

Avengers 4....never owned one which shocks me.

wonder woman issues by Hummel

Golden age green lantern 1

JIM 102? because first Hela....

Also there are some books I buy extras of on sight...x-men 50, howard the Duck 11, and 12, New gods 7 , and the Aparo spectre adventure books, as well as Adventure issues with Black orchid

because everyone should speculate on a few things that have gone precisely nowhere and may never either!

@Darkseid_of_town

People's tastes vary to a point. I think the sheep mentality kicks in and causes a lot of folks opinion's to change.

For example, who can honestly say they liked or even knew of the guardian of the galaxy characters before MCU?

It took the Netflix punisher to generate interest in Spider-man 129 again. (Back in the 90s it was the book to have along with spiderman 14.) Granted most everyone liked wolverine. Yes. They are severely overpriced, but so be it since I have 4 copies. (I dont collect out of morality principles)

Of course, this was only my experience while collecting, ymmv

You are absoloutely on point about mentalities...and the guardians of the galaxy. I owned a copy of Hulk 271 and when they announced they were using rocket I was so sure that would be idiotic that I sold my own copy and cashed in. Movie comes out and voila...I loved the character and wound up spending nearly a hundred dollars replacing the comic.I never saw it coming, an assistant editors month talking space racoon goes on to become a hit character...….

I am surprised anyone bought anything due to the punisher series, I felt the first season was horrible. It wasn't a very true to comics portrayal of the character as we have seen Frank Castle. I watched season two and felt it was amazing, and that they had finally found their footing and were doing something truer to the character. Season one to me dragged on and on but I wish season two had run another 20 episodes.
