It will be interesting to see if Todd McFarlane allows CGC witnessing at his signing times for Midtown.

Good luck with Todd for that witnessing. Todd has always been private signing for the yellow label. Best you can do is a red label of not private.

out of curiosity, why is there no witnessing for Todd? Why does he not allow it? I'm not 100% sure how witnessing works but when someone gets a Todd sig how does he know it's being witness by cgc? Is the witness side by side with the customer? or does the witness stand 10 feet away or so? if so, how does Todd know then? Or is it respecting the artist wishes? lots of question but this kinda baffles me a little.

Todd only does private signings twice a year for CGC. The witness stands next to the person having the book signed in from of in this case Todd. Todd will see the witness standing in front of him.

Todd is Todd. It goes way deeper than just sneaking in a witness. Todd wants a total control how he does his business. Sure, loves his fans and he'll sign two for free each round. And he is fully aware of how many people will make a profit off him by flipping his sigs on ebay. Just imagine the a-holes at Stan Lee's Collectibles sending their entire army wearing the $$$ coat-of-arm standing in Todd's line to get the free sigs. He is a business man, and wanting to stay in control over his sig. Todd knows about CGC really really well and I'm pretty sure he has voiced his policies with them before. So abide by his policies or no sigs for them. Remember how you can only get Stan's sig with a yellow label by goring through certain facilitators? Todd is similar but on a much stricter scale.

McFarlane Red Labels - $0 for autograph; $25 for VSP
McFarlane Yellow Labels (Private) - $XX for autograph; $5 for ASP

So at MOST there is a $20 differential between Red & Yellow. That's if he doesn't charge at a private signing (which I believe he does)

Sooooo .... my point ..... I still struggle trying to understand the stigma with red labels. I just don't get it. It's like "Red... nahhh" automatically without any logic based considerations

I agree, it comes down to a lack of knowledge. Someone could fake a "witnessing" at least with the VSP it gets authenticated by professionals. Downside is when a signature is rejected some people spaz out and say CBCS sucks 🤣.

The signings are at their booth.

I was disappointed to hear that so many of the artists are through Midtown as I was hoping I could simply go to their booth to get the signatures with potentially shorter lines.

I don't mind so much about having to buy something but the limit of 3 means waiting on a long line for the same artist more than one in some cases.

I have at least a dozen books that could use John Romita Jr' signature.

Lee, Middleton, and Parillo are represented by Scott's Collectibles and will also be be in artist alley or at the Scott's collectibles booth. I believe Bermejo is rep'd by them as well. Last year Mattina did signings almost everyday at the Midtown booth when he wasn't at the Scott's Collectibles booth.

I have a question? Why is it so convoluted to get a signature now a days? even folks that would normally would sign a couple of books for free are now part of a VIP package what costs a small fortune (maybe it's just a small fortune for me)and only includes 3 (or so) signatures. I've only paid for 2 Stan Lee signatures, for obvious reasons. I cannot and probably will not pay for these.

Just an FYI, this is not to say that you don't have a right to do what you want with your money, which you do, we all have different tolerances, mine is pretty low, to the amount of money spent on things like signature. these are my personal feelings. Buy what you like! after all it's your money and you only live once. (but my family is addicted to food, go figure)

@sportshort Midtown has always had a limit of 3 but aside from Frank Miller the signatures are usually free.

When paying for signatures the only reason quantities are limited is to keep the line moving. Often in these cases you can simply get back on the end of the line should you want more (unless it is a really hard to get artist with limited signing times / opportunities).

@drchaos,

I didn't know there were any free autographs available what with all the vip packages (see L.A. comic-con) most of the vip package "celebs" will not have any other autograph opportunities (free or small fee). Oh well, c'est la vie.

@drchaos I won’t be going but a few of my books are. Not getting anyone big, just a couple of sigs on a Harley Quinn and Gotham Academy books. I am super excited because I’ve lined up a couple commissions from an artist there. One is a quick head sketch that should be done by the end of the show but the other is a more complicated piece that will take a few months just to pay off lol
