Right, the thread began, as asking about double covers so I posted mine...regarding value of a double cover book, let someone find their way to the buying table who collects double covers, and all bets are off...they can silly for price real fast....

No idea on the value. There are collectors who put a premium on double covers and seek them out. I don’t own any. I do hope that whatever decision you make with it is the best for your collection.

I would beware of buying books raw with more than one cover. Though if the price is below market of what the book would value with the worst cover, then it may not matter. But I've seen many married covers with people trying to scam collectors out of money. ASM 361 comes to mind. Some are legit, some are faked, and there are copies out there with 3-7 covers. Look for signs of wear consistent with both outer cover and interior cover. Also, for vintage books, the interior cover should be tan according to the page quality while the outer cover interior should be close to white, not having touched the pages. Always check staples to make sure they don't look tampered with. Beat up books with double covers shouldn't be something to watch for, but modern high grade books may be.

Most mult cover books are found at LCS not even marked or “in the wild” at garage sales and similar. I have at least 3 multi cover books, none of the interior covers are tanned like the pages and absolutely no multis that i have seen have the same wear on outer and inner cover(s). That’s kind of the point...

Creases and spine dings should show most of the time. Soiling should not. Stains are a toss up. Tears are also a toss up. But there should be some consistency with defects. Unless high grade, very seldom should you see no damage on the interior cover where there are many flaws on the outer.

Only have one double cover (though I suppose there's a slim chance there's another in there that I've just missed), but I'm pretty pleased with it.

I guess I have to disagree there, I see quite a few double covers with rougher outers and inner cover or covers often in superb condition with little if any damage....when there are many as three or four covers that only increases exponentially as the damage seldom penetrates the first , let alone a 2nd third or fourth cover.

There are quite a few fakes out there - so be careful.

@zillon back to your original question - IH162 is actually one of those where the market has determined a price for double covers.

Happy to own an Immortal Hulk #1 double cover with the Dale Keown outer cover and the Alex Ross inner cover. Wish they were reversed! Nuff said.....

@Darkseid, not sure I understand your question. You know something I don't?

I was trying to figure out if perhaps some of these variants had the regular ross cover, that was then just wrapped with (insert name of variant) cover or if they were all normally only the variant without the ross cover inside.

The reason I ask is A) using both covers would be a nice incentive for the fans B) there are no listed double covers having sold in the GPA for Immortal Hulk 1...which doesn't mean they don't exist, just that none are slabbed that have sold through a traceable source …

Either way its a great book and no offense or anything intended

None taken darkseid. I did see other double covers for this book being sold on eBay. If it was an incentive by the LCS that commissioned Dale Keown to do a cover, get idea! I just love the Alex Ross covers and wish the covers were reversed. Either way the $20 bucks was well worth it to me. Nuff said..

I'm not sure it's "neglected" so much as it's 'not part of the original question'. I figure it stands to reason that we all know the interior factors into the grade, and it never occurred to me that anyone reading would be unaware of this constant.

A few minutes research...apparently nearly every copy for sale is a "double cover" ….this comic was apparently printed with both covers intentionally....here are multiple sales I found...…
Unsure that makes it a double cover in the classic sense, although a super cool book regardless for sure

@zillon I think of it like this. Simple.

A 2nd cover makes a book rarer.
But if the book itself isnt rare or sought after who cares?

Key issue or bust. Otherwise the premium gained is small.

I've got this with a double-cover, bought off the rack way back when. Very nice shape, probably 9.6+. Should I bother getting it slabbed.. and if I do, will the the fact that it's a double-cover appear on the writeup/details?

True. The only double cover I paid for AS a double cover was a Buck Rogers for around $25. While the ones I listed above aren't keys, they are somewhat desirable and would likely draw more attention.
