Hello all!

I have a question about a couple of items, if they are valid for submission.

First is a first edition, first printing Arkham Asylum. Its a Hardcover; does that matter? I also have a first printing soft-cover, but I don't know if either are qualified for submission. They're both in pristine condition, original wrapper, etc.

The second is for a first edition, first printing The Killing Joke. Its something of an oversized book, so I wanted to be sure before sending it in.

Third & final is a copy of the Joker by Brian Azzarello. Again, hardcover, so asking before shipping.

I found a nicer copy of Batman: Harley Quinn that will be along for the ride too.

Any advice would be appreciated.

CBCS’ guidelines for what they grade are as follows

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a hardcover graded but I’d imagine most are too thick to be graded.

Killing Joke and Harley Quinn are certainly eligible, however.

So depth is the issue. Going to break the ol' ruler out & see if the Arkham Asylum softcover will make it; the hardcover is a no-go, Amazon lists the dimensions at (6.7 x 0.3 x 10.1) inches. Same w/ Joker, the dimensions are off (6.9 x 0.4 x 10.6) inches.

Can always ask for that mythical "case-by-case basis" & see if they'll do a couple of oversized slabs.

I had no way of knowing that 9.8 graded copies signed by Adam Hughes weren't what you were looking for. drchaos private msg quote post Address this user
Neither grading company will touch hard covers. Books with metal covers or jeweled covers.

Is the killing joke the re-release as a hard cover as well, or the prestige copy (like a soft cover...sim to batman: cult or thanos quest if you need examples)

I am of the opinion that Hardcovers; even originals are generally not worth much because they cannot be slabbed and graded. It's unfortunate. There's great stuff out there in hardcover (and thick) softcover editions that are overlooked because a "number" with a label can't be placed on it.
A completely untapped market imo.
