You know what they say "A fool and his money are soon parted for a facsimile cover he saw on eBay." At least that's how I think it goes.

37 bids, makes you wonder how many people fell for it ...or if it was only a shill bidder running it up

This is the listing. Mostly low feedback sccounts. The account with 41 is either a still bidding account or first time bidder.

I'm pretty sure I posted in another thread about this happening. Whether it's on purpose or someone not paying attention, the facsimile covers are going to end up with people not getting what they think they're getting.

While those of us who know better will immediately see that this is a reprint, it is not noted or apparent from the posting title or the description in the listing. I think this is a 100% deceptive listing. Can't express how much this bothers me.

I'm sure ebay and paypal will give me back his/her money when they realize the seller lied in the listing.

Wow, what a shame. To us it's obvious from that one photo that this is the facsimile. It's too bad the bidders weren't able to tell the difference (assuming they're real bids)

Should we PM the buyer?

I just cant believe this happened. I know 200 bucks isn't a lot to some people but if Im spending 200 bucks on a book I look it over and look at every picture. At first I thought this might be someone who doesn't know about comics or just a casual collector but to drop 200 on it I feel they have to have some knowledge and be more than a casual. I know the seller lied and they also put 1991 so they will probably get their money back but still.

Sad. Marvel Comics were NOT 3.99 in 1991!!

Ok. I admit, I dont know if I see the telltale signs. Can someone confirm or explain, so I can spot it in the future.

One fella mentioned price tag.

I'm thinking the barcode looks too modern.

Anything else I'm missing?

The whole upper Marvel Comics logo box is wrong with the price and no Comics Code Authority logo, the UPC at the bottom wasn't like that in the early 90s, and the modern Marvel logo to the right of the UPC wasn't on books back then.

It could also be someone’s significant other trying to acquire a book as a gift...and Didn’t have much to go on other than a cover and title/number.

Does this person have other similar auctions (active or completed)? Might want to report them.

Upon inspection...this seller doesn’t have any other comics...could be the seller had no clue either!

“Holy cow, New Mutants 98 for $3.99!!! I’m going to make a fortune on eBay!!!”

Completely agree.

I’d like to add a PSA to this:

Don’t be the a$*hole that lists a facsimile as the real deal.

I hope that degree of censorship abides by the rules. I don’t usually even suggest coarse language but this is legit scummy behavior. Seriously. Sellers like this take all the fun out of the hobby.

Completely agree.

I hate when publishers churn out reprints and facsimile covers. With all the great artists, I'd much rather have new cover art than a cover that is almost identical to a previous one.

Or have a big heading marvel classic reprint on the top of the cover

The whole facsimile edition is goofy to me. I don't know what Marvel's criteria is for determining what gets a facsimile. Like, why should I pay $4 or $5 for a Dazzler #1 or Alpha Flight #1 facsimile, when I can pay that much and get the actual version in NM condition? I feel like Marvel is stretching a bit on what deserves a facsimile and even a True Believer edition. At least the TB editions are $1. Green collectors could get hosed on these if they don't know what they're looking at.

But this would deter scammers- I mean some people- from buying them Marvel can't have that.
