It was a one trick pony show but always hilarious. GAC private msg quote post Address this user
Mad is an institution.

Is Alfred E. Neuman based on a real person?

My wife bought it for me at the grocery store.

About 10 copies at Barnes & Noble, none had Plop. I’m also pretty sure the cover header did not mention plop.

If your wife bought it at the grocery store chances are some kid ripped the plop comic out of the book

According to mycomicshop.com only direct editions came with plop 1.
Makes sense the grocery store and Barnes & Noble do not have plop 1 as they are newsstand.

@kaptainmyke Thanks! I have now ordered a direct copy from MCS since the Newsstand edition let me down

Odd thing to do. Something like this could boost Direct sales while hurting Newsstand sales. Do Newsstand collectors love the barcode so much that they'd want what can be considered a lesser item?

As an avid newsstand junkie, I will answer an emphatic no, At least in this case. I didn’t even buy the newsstand edition of Mad 7. I wanted the Plop 1 reprint more than the magazine itself.
I also hold magazine format in lower esteem than comic books for no logical reason. I’ll probably still go pick up a Mad 7 newsstand...

There was an article in the paper recently about how Trump's calling Pete Buttigieg Alfred E. Neuman was "out of touch," noone's going to know what that is. Made me feel old. As a teenager in the 80s, MAD Magazine provided much joy.
