Maybe the oddest and hardest book to find in nice condition in the 3d world. Plus glasses attached.

These are the only ones I have, I've always considered 'Atomic Age' to be a transitional period, with one foot firmly in the Golden Age and maybe a few toes dipping into the Silver.

The late 40s/ early 50s period was probably the most diverse in the history of the medium. The golden age of comics truly went out in a blaze of glory with an incredible array of genres, titles and publishers all vying for a piece of the enormous readership pool. It’s a shame that politicians and the anti-comics stigma they created dealt the industry such a blow, but the sad truth is that, even if that had never happened, television would have done the job all by itself. Still, this is a great period to collect and look back upon. It seemed that anyone who had two nickels to rub together was publishing comics. Some were very poorly printed and produced on irregular schedules by publishers who folded like accordions when the times got tough. One such publisher was St. John.

Casper the friendly ghost #1, September 1949, Davis Crippen pedigree copy.

Casper the friendly ghost #2, February 1950.

Casper the friendly ghost #3, August 1950.
In spite of having a serious of Paramount films marketing their product, St John was unable to stay afloat. The rights to publish Casper and other Paramount features was transferred to another publisher, Harvey Comics. Harvey had survived thus far by doing what most publishers did: imitating the most successful comics on the stands. Whether through brilliant business decisions or dumb luck, their purchase of the Paramount license positioned them to be one of the few publishers who would not only survive the tumultuous end of the golden age of comics, but thrive.

Harvey Comics Hits #61, the first Harvey issue of Casper.
Harvey would eventually go on to own all the Paramount characters outright, forming the foundation of a company that would last for decades to come.

I don't know. I think Pete has low standards. He appears to be rolling in the babes, until you realize the redhead on the left seems to go from waist to thigh with virtually no butt in between, the Elsa-costumed blonde has a right eye much lower than her left and the brunette on the right appears to be wearing Snaggletooth on her head. I think Pete's been at sea for months and isn't too discriminating.

And of course I want the comic too - I'm just messing around.

Pretty sure I saw the Monster sitting by the pool when I went on a Carnival cruise a year or so ago. Wearing almost the same shorts.

And because apparently I'm on a tear today - where's the rest of the Monster's right leg?

Sure looks like Atomic Age could be rolled back 2 years to 1946. I see why there is so much debate.

This cover never gets old. Cost and arm and a leg but I am hopping around quite nicely.
