Has anyone ordered from newkadia before? If so, how is their accuracy at grading NM? I see a lot of newkadia listings on eBay and notice some as NM+...assuming it is better than a NM?

Short answer: I’ve bought from them before but not often. Their grading, from what little I’ve seen has been fairly close

long not-quiteanswer: I’ve ordered maybe 7 book from then across 3 orders in the past two years. Their site is a bit of a turnoff but I do like that they attempt to justify their grade for each book (here’s an example)

I believe this book was graded V or VF and it had a significant bend in the upoer left corner that surprised me. I don’t remember if it was mentioned and I was surprised by the severity or if it was not me tio . Fortunately it pressed out

This one I bought raw from their ebay store and it was listed as Near Mint +. No pressing this time. Interestingly, it seems that they created an order on their site for this book despite the fact that I bought it on ebay as it shows up on my account.

Thanks for the info, I may place an order because they have several NM/NM+ listings on eBay that are priced reasonably.

I strongly advise against ordering from Newkadia. I ordered 4 books from them through eBay and found their grading to be off by as much as a full grade. These were all lower grade books but were not even close to accurate. Their vg+ was my gd+, their vg was my gd, their fn+ was fine at best. I was so disgusted with the order that I actually contacted Newkadia. While they were nice enough about the problem and refunded 40% of the purchase price, I still felt like I overpaid, even after the partial refund. I can tell you for sure that I will never ever buy from them again.

I've done well with Newkadia for cheap books in bulk. (i.e. $1 - $3) listed as NM or VF.
On the other hand, I don't have any experience with them with upper echelon key/expensive books.

I second @Nuffsaid111. I've bought plenty of filler issues in the VF to NM range. I will say I haven't been impressed with their NM+ designation but everything else was fairly accurate. Packaging was solid and shipping was fast. Prices could be cheaper on their website than eBay store.

That would annoy me. They still got the sale and you ended up with lower grade books than you wanted. Based on your experience, I would definitely not buy from them.

A big part of it was that they used stock photos in the listings so I was buying blind. Like I said, never again.

For having such an elaborate web site, it leaves a lot to be desired.

I know the owner. Hes a great guy and has a fantastic crew. I’ve never had a an issue with any of the books I’ve sent in for grading.

I agree on their grading not being accurate. Their grading was actually pretty good a few years back, but it now I find that anything graded with a "+" or "-" is graded higher than what I would have graded it. The good thing about their site is you can click onto the grades to see the grader notes.

Unfortunately, they have their own grading standard which looks like they take into account of the book's defects and then averages them out to get a final grade.

I bought a book from them that was graded in Fine and when I received it the book had extensive water damage. They're super easy to work with and they gave me a partial refund for the book.

A friend of mine proposed some advice about online reviews and I agree with his advice.

Positive reviews mean nothing. If the experience is positive, that's what it should be. Anybody can write a positive review and that's fine. Their level of approval will not have much to do with mine.

I only go by the negative reviews and weigh that carefully. Those are the things I don't want to happen. Getting comics in lower condition that I want is very annoying. My willingness to make the purchase assumes that the grade stated is accurate. I do not want any books with water damage. I would be very annoyed if I bought a comic with undisclosed water damage. On comics in the $1-$5 range, I'm probably ordering NM and no lower condition is acceptable. I don't want any comics in VF if they have that low of a price guide value. The value drops too much when it was only worth $3 in NM.

I don't want any problems, so telling me how wonderful someone is at resolving problems means nothing. I value my spare time more than that. Even if I'm doing absolutely nothing, that's what I want to be doing. Sitting on the phone whining about the condition of a comic being incorrect is not how I will spend my time. I'd just as soon throw away a $10 comic than plead for a credit.

For this reason, I rarely buy online. A lot of wonderful and nice people make mistakes. I don't do business with people because they are nice people. I do business with people because they have a product I would like to own at the price I am willing to pay. Therefore, if people are getting something different than advertised, I really have no interest in using their service. To each their own.

In some cases, I am willing to overpay for a product or gamble blindly that something will arrive in an acceptable condition. That is a risk and a gamble that I assume and I don't get frustrated with the retailer in those cases. An eBay seller that lists 50 lots of car parts and has one auction with a comic is not someone I'd trust to grade a comic anyway. I don't purchase from someone like that expecting a NM comic. A retailer that has dedicated their business to the hobby and sells hundreds or thousands of comics a month is someone that I expect to be accurate with grading.

This seller has 99.9% positive feedback. That said, most buyers leave positive feedback as long as any issues are resolved. I wish eBay had a better system for rating sellers based on actual quality of the product. I will pass on newkadia because I don't trust sellers who will not post pictures of the product listed. My time is also valuable and I prefer to be guaranteed a nm comic will be nm and not an overpriced vf or less.
