Thanks @Jesse_O - Daryl has asked people to start voicing if you like the “red” color label for VSP in the same Facebook post that Jesse posted. Almost everyone so far liked the “Red” color. If you want a different color now’s a good time to head to Facebook and speak up 🍺

@GAC I'm not disagreeing
But the red label verbiage is right from their website.

If I had to give it a color, it looks rose to me. Not quite pink, not red

I suspect the "Exceptional White" idea will be an epic fail. There are several good reasons why it isn't a positive move, including the most obvious (an unintended secondary subtext that comes uncomfortably close to a tiki torch carrier slogan). Note: That's because the word "exceptional" has been co-opted into an -ism that has a political context.

Better a hyphenated word like "super-White" or "bone-White" be used. However, the most relevent argument against any change in current designation is that the word "White" has stood the test of time for freshest page quality and changing that would be unfair to all owners of books graded prior to it's implementation.

To CBCS management: that's food for thought, guys.

Mostly agree. The bottom-line issue is that CBCS made a stupid grammar mistake. You would never say "wow, that snow is exceptional white." You would say "wow, that snow is exceptionally white." The difference between adjectives and adverbs is important, folks. And yes, it lowers the chance that someone will confuse your comic for David Duke.

As to generally putting more color info on the slab: I don't really care, personally. But the OWL system does go from 0 to 10 just like the condition system, and CBCS uses numbers without words for condition. If you want to put more color info on the slab, put another number on the slab. If you aren't going to say "near mint", don't say "exceptionally white" either (and please, please don't say exceptional white). Say 9.8/9.8.

According to the book “Foundations of Color” by Jeff Davis, “white” is the lightest possible value.

Don't knock dem bones. Those who have a bone to pick with the word "exceptional" are trying to offer marrow transplants.

How about plain, old "white"? If it was good enough for my grandfather, it's good enough for me.

Going off the grandfather theme, what if we replaced 'exceptional white', and we went with 'fruit of the loom white'?

Careful, that would have to be “Mint in Package Fruit of the Loom” White!

Actually, Brilliant White may be a better designation. It’s even used in the paper industry.

@CBCS I will want royalties.
