The book had red map pencil or red crayon along spine. It was a slight B-1 amateur restoration. So the book was scraped and cleaned off. I could not believe it only took a .5 drop in grade.

@kaptainmyke so does restoration removal of this nature usually drop the grade?
Post 404 IP   flag post
Collector CatCovers private msg quote post Address this user
@bige31 Very often, yes. On the other hand, an unrestored 6.5 Hulk 181 is worth probably three times or more what you could get for a restored 7.0.

@CatCovers cool. I have a hulk 181 8.5 that’s restored with slight color touch. So I’ve thought about having removed when I first heard that it could be done.

Depends on the level of restoration. Is it B-1 Slight? Then definitely pay to have the light color touch scraped off. Your 8.5 restored could very well end up a blue label clean 7.0 easily

The removal costs 100 or the review and to see if it qualifies?

Went to an LCS today looking for a decent X-Men or ASM issue for my collection. I came across these two Archie clones from 1959 in a box of miscellaneous kids comics. Although I have been trying to limit my purchases, I felt like I had to rescue these DeCarlo classics that are rarely seen. Unfortunately, when I flipped through them when I got home, one has a clipped coupon on an interior page (doesn’t effect the art/story). If anyone is in need of either or both of these, let me know.

The removal costs $100 but to look it is $10 or $20 to screen it

Thanks There's a rough section of spine wear at the center that I believe kept it from a [CGC SA] 9.4

The low grade is better than no grade philosophy has been driving every single thing I've bought recently...I got a couple more books coming that I'll share here that I got because "I want it, and that's what i can afford"

@Enelson Yep. Same boat. I've come to reality while trying to finish my 1st series ASM set. As much as I would like all the early keys in high grade, my wallet says no. So, I accepted this and get lower grades. Still love them.

That’s basically the slogan for this book lol

I definitely agree that I’d rather have a really rough copy of a key book than not have it all. I actually just ordered a coverless Giant-Sized X-Men, which I still think could use a press just to help it present a little better. Besides, I’ve (hopefully) still got decades of collecting ahead of me to upgrade.

Not in hand yet but purchased this awesome Spiderman noir sketch by Will Torres. Being sent in for grading / sketch label today. He’s sending it in directly with the necessary paperwork which is awesome.
