Restored Amazing Fantasy 15 - CBCS7893

Collector GanaSoth private msg quote post Address this user
This is one of the best looking copies i have ever seen that's been restored. I don't know who they used to restore it but they did an excellent job. Anyone know whom did the restoration?

Seems like the label contradicts itself. Restored Extensive Amateur, but Professional Restoration includes:...

@GanaSoth they do excellent work. Mega key books north of 9.4 I’ve seen from them.

They’re also Involved in a lawsuit with the CGC (they wont grade their books, CCS says it’s “too” restored, defamation, got them kicked off Heratige auctions etc etc). Although thats old news and the suit may be resolved by now.

3 edges trimmed? Ugggh! The price should be closer to a Good price regardless of how nice it looks.

Is Stan Lee's signature worth $46,000 yet?

If the viagra is working you should be well over a 9.8. xkonk private msg quote post Address this user
I know this gets hashed out in threads every once in a while, but this is a prime example of why there should be a different color scheme for the labels. Restored books shouldn't inherit that happy-looking gold.

I think a paper fill should count as a defect. No restored books with that many defects should ever get a 9.0 regardless of the label color. Restoration should never increase the grade.
It should only increase the aesthetic presentation of the comic and make it more salable. This book should price out as the prettiest Good condition comic you can buy.

@X51 I wonder what the restoration debate will look like in 10 years from now, I feel like it's always evolving.

@comic_book_man great question! in many other hobbies restoration is not a four letter word. old muscle cars or signs etc, restoration is desirable. Comics not so much but even then I'm not sure that's always been the case.

Books, cars, and comics are all mass produced - but Picasso originals weren't so I feel like restoration absolutely has a place in comics but I often see it debated when the topic of comic's being in the realm of fine art.

At what point is something restoration vs. an incomplete book with added stuff that wasn't there?
Can I cut an Amazing Fantasy #15 into 6 pieces and then add stuff to the pieces to make 6 restored copies of the comic? At what point does the word "extensive" not send up a red flag. The colors are completely off in those pictures. I assume they are low resolution pictures, but that could be one of the color touch issues mentioned in the notes.

@X51 Exactly, when will that question become more defined...ever? 10 years?

Maybe restored books need a change in how they are represented in a slab.

The grading standards in the industry will always shift in a manner that allows retailers to buy low and sell high. That is the collective criteria which initiates change. The changes are usually slow and gradual.
