New Look For Scorpion In Into The Spider-Verse (yikes)7537

Collector 00slim private msg quote post Address this user
So, Funko has released pic of their line of Mysrery Minis for the animated Spider-Man movie, ‘Into The Spider-Verse’.

This gives us our first look at Scorpion in the movie. While this is just a little vinyl figure & not a detailed pic from the film, it gives a good idea of what he’ll look like.

The final version might look better, but I’m not loving what I see so far.

Thoughts?

Terrible. An exaggerated style doesn't work any better for animation than it would live action. My first impression? These figurines look like they were designed for toddlers, which is fine, but why would anyone support animating them that way? That said, Funko is popular with adult collectors, so there may be a more complicated marketing strategy involved in this. The actual animation might end up looking entirely different.

Weird ...and funny... thing about Marvel's & DC's corporate universes. Marvel Studios have built sustainable, interconnected, live action universes for their film and TV franchises.

Conversely, DC has done an awful job establishing and integrating a movie universe that fans can support, and they haven't done much better with their live action TV series. Of course, there are obvious exceptions, but they don't get nearly as much buzz as monumental failures. Interestingly, DC's animated TV series have scored much better overall, ...again, not in every case, but generally.

The bottom line is that Marvel can probably afford to tinker with their animated product because the stink of a failure won't rub off on their films and TV series universe. Does that mean they should mess around with their winning formula? Of course not.

i learned something about funko licenses. some licenses are dependent on how much money is involved. Marvel, for example. has a very very tight license restriction on what's allowed and this trascends into Pop figures. Marvel pop figures appear very basic in my opinion, like other IPs for Funko POP! Vinyls.

Rick and Morty, by contrast, has an exclusive licensing deal with Funko so most if not all of their Rick and Morty pop figures are highly detailed. The more you know.

Don’t get me wrong, I really want to see this movie, the trails look great. I don’t love this character design, but the movie has a lot going for it.
