X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX - 1st Trailer Reactions7502

COLLECTOR JLS_Comics private msg quote post Address this user
Thoughts on our first look at the new X-Men movie, and the last of the X-Men proper franchise?

Do you think it'll follow the source material closer this time?
It looks much darker in tone to me as well

i really hope it comes close to the source material as that what they were going for on this movie, i think it will be one of the better ones, but only time will tell, and will be seen it.

Found it boring. Typical movie schlock.

Nothing compared to the depth and intrigue that the X-Men franchise has to offer.

This also is not surprising at all. Movies pumped out from beginning to end in a 2 year time period are usually very poor.

The trailer looks quite a bit difference. X-men 98-101 plus X-Men 129-137 is the source material.

Where is the Shi'ar Empire?

Is the blonde actress supposed to be Lilandra Neramani?

The Hellfire Club played a pivotal role in transforming Phoenix into the Dark Phoenix. Will they appear?

@Despain Good points brought up. I saw the trailer last night, I think on Jimmy Fallon's show. I am not feeling it. But, I really want to. I will watch it again a couple times and maybe I will warm up to it. The actress who played Jean Grey was on the talk show. Cannot remember because I am sick and not thinking right. I am out.

I assume the blonde actress is supposed to be White Queen.

@BrianGreensnips Thanks. Hope you feel better. I just recovered from the flu about two weeks ago.

@brysb So, Emma Frost? I looked on IMDb, and it said the character's name is Smith. Maybe they want to keep the character's identity a secret for now and gave her the generic name "Smith" on the casting list. I don't know.

I feel that in order to do a proper Phoenix film, they need the Shi'ar Empire and the Hellfire Club.

I doubt we will ever see The Dark Phoenix saga done true to the Claremont/Byrne vision.

Remember X-Men: Apocalypse? It had a better trailer...

I am underwhelmed

I too am underwhelmed and I am afraid they are taking bits and pieces from other stories and trying to shoehorn them into this story. They could take 2 or three movies to tell this story, it is going to be difficult to tell the "saga" in just 2 hours and do the characters any kind of justice.

I swore no more comics, then this happened. PaulPop private msg quote post Address this user
Has an X-men movie ever been made that came close to the source material? The last straw for me was Days of Future Past.

I have yet to see a good X-men movie. There, I said it.

If the viagra is working you should be well over a 9.8. xkonk private msg quote post Address this user
There isn't some obvious overlap between 'good movies' and 'movies that perfectly follow the source material'. Like @PaulPop said, none of the X-Men movies have been that close to any particular storyline. But if you think that X-Men, X-2, First Class, or Logan were bad movies, you're in the minority. People liked Days of Future Past too.

All that said, Apocalypse certainly left something to be desired. I hope Dark Phoenix is a turn back in the right direction. If it is, it'll have little to do with how well it copies the comic storyline.

I wasn't wild about the Dark Phoenix storyline. They can do what they want. All have been okay. Wish they'd have chosen someone else for Jean Grey. It's another situation where I don't want to look at the actress they picked for 2hrs.

A theatrical release for a PG-13 edit of ‘Deadpool 2’, apparently.

My reaction is the same as it always is...

“Please don’t suck... Please don’t suck...”

I particularly like Dark Phoenix (exhibit a... commission below currently getting signed by Stan and then graded as art) so I REALLY hope they don’t mess it up. It doesn’t have to be exactly to source material, but it just needs to not suck whichever way they go with it

Bizarre. And not an especially great sign that X-Men got pushed back. Maybe they're hoping Avengers 4 will have died down by then instead of only having a couple weeks before Captain Marvel?
