Ok … this needs to be addressed.. I personally could give a rip either way But.. My Grandkids (7&9)
love reading comics... Batman, superman, Ironman, Hulk etc.. etc.. so why do they have to show Bat Dick..? Next it will be Superman Dick, which you know will have to be bigger.. Then what about Spiderman his can't be bigger than the bats or Superman's.. And what about Ironman will it be real or a prosthetic … Then you got the Hulk.. Damn.. the question is did that grow or not... I mean the next step will be soft porn after all their marrying each other.. god help us if Batman & robin get married.. I know it's life but can't it stay out of main stream comics.. If I want porn I'll buy porn.. the last question is; Is this going to carry over into the movies.. I do not want to see superman destroy Lois Lane.. Ok all this funny stuff aside Please Publishers lets not destroy comic books with your politically correct crap.. Well then again, maybe I do give a rip..
Maybe the Russians are behind this.. LOL.... I'm done

I agree. Comics were originally intended for kids. It is not necessary to go in this direction and I don’t think that DC should be monetarily rewarded for this.

Desperate attention grabbing stunts like this remind me of the beginnings of the 90’s crash.

DC Black Label exists to be 'adult material'. If you, or a retailer, hand over an adult comic (or take them to an R movie, watch an M TV show, etc.), that's where the problem happened.

The problem is, kids love Batman and they will find a way to see this. It tarnishes the brand IMO. What’s next Mickey Mouse’s dick?

This has been done before. Spiderman: Reign. Another dark/adult oriented story about a kid favorite superhero.

Not impressed.

My take on it is this, should kids be reading it? No. Is that issue intended for children? Also no. I don't want to see dicks in every issue of the books I read either but if it's done tastefully then who cares? Also, there's PLENTY of T&A in comics. One dick and everyone goes bananas. I acknowledge the argument can be made that showing T&A doesn't always equate to genitalia but believe it or not those covers and books exist too.

OMG, the thing is basically a silhouette. People are offended by this? It was very artistically done. You’d think it was a Batman erection panel the way folks are talking.

Im not offended by it. However, I do think it’s absolutely hilarious that people are now speculating on batman’s dick.

Batman Damned is a mature book not intended for children. If your Grandkids get them then its the fault of the adults for letting them read Mature books.

One of the local stores here has already announced they are no longer selling at cover price. Pretty dick move on their part, but the owner is kind of a douche anyway. My first foray into penis-filled comics was Providence by Alan Moore, I liked the Lovecraft vibe going on but I'm not sure how the schlongs came into play.

I too am not offended by it but this seems like a publicity stunt...that is more offensive than a dick pic.

Why? The cheapest you can get it on eBay right now is $25, and that's what he's selling it for. (And still cover price, if you called and asked him to hold one today.) Of course, there's, like, 10 comic stores in the area. So I guess you can try those...

MCS had about 7-8 of the regular cover listed at $6.99 each a couple hours ago. It looks like they are sold out of both now.

It's a dick move because the book just came out. He claims it's to dissuade the flippers. Why not just put a cap on the number of copies a person can buy? I've seen stores do that. Works out reasonably well. I'm not interested in the book, so I really don't know if I should care about it. I just have a difference of opinion with how he runs his shit.

Exactly!!
My LCS took them off the shelf and has the copies behind the counter - 1 copy per person, regular customers first choice (i.e. if you come in for 1st time to the store as a flipper then he just won't tell you he has copies behind the counter).
Just great - not on my normal pull list but I was able to get myself one! I went with cover A - not really a super fan of Lee and cover A just looked better - Lee's cover could have been any stock Batman work he did before

Now he did say if he gets a re-order with the offending panels not changed then those will get a price bump - but original order is at cover price.

Meh ... he's already sold out of the more popular cover. If you don't raise the price to the market, then the comic doesn't go to whomever wants it the most (or can pay the most). Maybe he saves some for good customers? I don't know. I love the store, but I get a (much) better discount online, so I don't have a pull list there.

I have been enjoying following this discussion while at work, and have had a little time to collect my thoughts on this. As a 49 year old man, is this really that big of a deal to me? No. I don’t even buy new comics anymore, so to me it is really just a rather shameless attempt to generate buzz and, subsequently, sales. However, as a parent who is raising his seven year old son, I find it much more disturbing. When my grandson was four, he had a Batman costume that he wore around the house every day for about a year. He wanted to wear the darn thing out in public every day, but we eventually convinced him that that could compromise his secret identity. To this day, the pizza delivery girl still calls him “Batman”. Certainly any comic with Batman in it would be on his radar, as opposed to Watchmen or Miracleman, which I doubt he would even make it to page 3. I guess my point is this: to take a product that is clearly not intended for small children and package it in a way that is clearly enticing to small children is in poor taste at best. Anyone remember that cartoon camel that used to hock cigarettes?
