The content was from like 2008 - 2012, at least what I saw, but it was appalling. He tried one of those non-apology apologies, like that's who I was not who I am. Apparently didn't work.

Tons of tweets about pedophilia and rape. He was some kind of edge-lord back in the day.

That's crazy. You'd think they would've vetting him a little more if that is the case

I can take shocking and offensive humor for what it is and not assume he actually did the things he said. He should be conscious that saying things like that on Twitter is opening the door to the entire world and it will reach people who don't get it or have zero tolerance for it. At the time he didn't care. It's obvious he does now and has to deal with the consequences. It's quite possible that he made sarcastic jokes about those topics because they offended him so much that laughing about it was his only therapy.

Just had a thought...I'm not sure if he was under contract, but Sean Gunn did all the motion reference for Rocket Raccoon and of course played Kraglin...wonder if he'll be a part of the 3rd film now.

I guess GotG 3 will suck now. By firing Gunn , Disney just lost a few hundred million from 3's box office.

As much as I loved Gunn's style and humor, I actually don't think his departure will have hardly any impact on the performance of the 3rd one if the trailers look good and the marketing is equivalent. The core of movie goers have love and loyalty to a franchise and the characters, not so much to the director.

Now if the movie sucks, people will definitely attribute it to not having Gunn involved.

Sad day for GOTG fans he was a great direct and the franchise will definitely differ if Disney wants to get as far from him as possible.

Open minded? Forgiving? They know that actions speak louder than words?
I'm not really defending him. I don't care if he directs the movies or not. He did what he did and he has to deal with the consequences.

LOL...ok.

People are "open minded" and "forgiving" when they get what they want.

@shrewbeer some of his jokes were pretty crude and gross for sure, but I agree.

Give me a break, making a comment vs him having acted on anything disgusting like this is literally two sides of the spectrum.

I make crude and crass remarks all the time, and if someone was to hang me out to dry because they are uptight is ridiculous.

I feel for James Gunn, he got screwed, no other way around it.

I've always said that the internet, for all its great advantages and splendor, is far outweighed by its ever growing negativity and hatred.

I don’t think they should have fired him. I don’t like the idea of things from the past coming out of nowhere to destroy you. I think people change and you should judge who they are not who they were. With that said, these were more than just some crass jokes or a one off joke that crossed a line. We’ve all been there. This stuff was pretty disturbing and the more I read the worse it got. He was trading pedo jokes with a guy who was later convicted of child porn - or so I’ve read - I get it, I don’t like guilt by association either, but that’s pretty bad optics. I hope he directs again, GOTG was great, but wouldn’t want this guy around kids.

@Themaxx35 I understand what you mean. It is tough to discern what’s real and what’s a joke when it’s in written form.

As a kid, we greeted each other with middle fingers, called each other by racist names, and made jokes about the most disturbing and disgusting things we could possibly think of. The worse it was, the funnier it was. None of us ever acted on it or meant any of it for real. If any of that was in written form... lol

Oh I hear you. If little maxx35 had a Twitter or Facebook when I was a kid I would be screwed. Even now I really have to watch it. I have hard time filtering when I see an opportunity for a joke; it just comes out. I’ve cracked a few in front of my Commander that could have gotten me in a lot of trouble. But a dude in his 40s putting pedo stuff in writing for years on end is just disturbing in my book. Anyhow, I do genuinely hope Gunn recovers from this.

there are people in our society who are a hyper sensitive, uber politically correct and an insincerely angered group with agendas.

In today’s corporate environment he got exactly what he deserved. I wouldn’t be surprised if his contract stated his behavior on social media is a fire able offense, regardless of when the comments were made. My contract for my employer states as much and I must get trained on it too every year. Heck, I get monthly reports on whether my behavior is up to snuff.

If James Gunn never works again I won’t feel bad. He made his bed and must now lie in it.

his only crime is saying what he said in an arena that can be accessed at any time. he could have (and probably also did) said these exact same things in casual conversation and there'd be zero fallout for him.

@cawummel of course Disney is in the right. They have no choice but to fire him. Its just too bad that this is the world we live in today where they have to do that for something he said 10 years ago.

Yes, it’s a shame that they fired a guy who made several tweets about doing horrible things to children. What a rotten society we live in.

I mean, those dozens of tweets were just jokes right?
