For me it is Amazing Spiderman 300, I bought back in 95-96 at a store that had 50% off all back issues and had this one listed at $24, so with the discount I eneded up paying about $12, which to me at the time was a huge amount of money, I was in my early teens.
A month ago I had sent to CGC for grading (I regret not doing pressing) and should be arriving today, but on their website the score reads 9.4, on ebay I see that such scored varies between $500-$600.

Bought this beauty probably a little over 10 years ago for $100 - it was a little steep for me but I thought it looked so good I went ahead and bought it. We agreed it was around VF (8.0) but it might grade higher (I'll know in about 2 months!)

If we’re talking what I paid vs. final value, I’d say my original Tales of Suspense 52. Got It raw for $35. It came back a 4.0 from across the street & I sold it for $375.

But for jump in value, I’d say my 8.0 House of Secrets 92. My wife got it for me as an anniversary gift. At the time, she overpaid for it at $800 if memory serves me correctly. I see that grade consistently going for $1600+ now.

Marty has me beat, but these showed a good increase. I have a few New Mutants 98 that I bought when it came out. They were 25% off cover price because it was on my pull list (75 cents each). Two were 9.8s. Here’s one;

It would have been Cerebras The Ardvark #1. Bought a small collection maybe 15 years ago for $50 or so and it was in there.

I didn’t know it was a sought after book at the time. I thought it was indie drek and sold it in a larger lot for maybe $1 per issue.

Damn. If I’d only known.

Probably my NYX 3, Next Men 21 or Batman 608 2nd print - picked all these up at cover price at my LCS when they first came out.
Bought the 608 by accident!! dont't usually go for 2nd prints.

My Flash 139 is doing ok, is CGC 7.0 but I bought it raw a long time ago for $40-$50 bucks.

Picked up my Batman Adventures #12 for $25 is a 9.0 maybe a bit higher??

Hard to beat the pure cover price for % increases.

I bought a Morbius #1 (2013) 2nd print off MCS for $1.70+ship on 7/2 to go towards completing the series in my pc. MCS was the only place I could find one.
Last sales on eBay were $16, 18, and $20 on 7/5-7/6. There’s many listed now.
Small potatoes but probably my best increase relatively speaking.

Hulk 181 bought for $120. Sold for $1500

Iron man #1 two copies. Bought both for $50 each. Sold for around $700 each.

Journey into mystery 83. Bought for $500. Sold for $3,300.

My secret was just buying all these books 15+ years ago. I don’t think most modern books will jump as much as these did.

This is a 9.6 GFC with White pages. It wasn't cheap when purchased, but a sister copy with exactly the same pedigree, grade and appearance tripled in value based on the last major auction sale. Given the classic Wally Wood cover, Gaines File Copy status, art & story content and general coolness of the book, I can understand the interest and price realized. As a speculator, this all makes sense and of interest to me, but as a collector uninterested in selling, this is more of a curiosity that validates the purchase...

In percentage terms my best purchases were the five copies of ASM # 300 I bought at my LCS at cover price. While they are worth more now I had them graded (four were pressed) and I sold my four 9.8s and one 9.6 around 2012 / 2013.

My biggest gain in terms of dollar amount was this book that I bought in 2013 and sold in 2017:

I bought a Hulk 181 at a comic shop in 1989 for $120. I had it graded 7 years ago and it got 6.0
A year or so later I had it CPR'd to a 7.0

I bought this in 2012 for a little over $2400. Not a big increase by percentage, but the last recorded GPA sale in this grade was $7350

I bought this new when it came out.

One of these.

All that comes to mind for me is also Batman Adventures #12. At the time my LCS was giving me between 30% and 40% off from cover price, so I either paid 75 or 88 cents for it.

I pretty much bought every DC comic from the mid-80's until my LCS closed in 1998 so I'll have to check and see if any issues shot up in value.I didn't buy a whole lot of Marvels so I'll have to dig through my boxes, but I don't think I have NM 98 or ASM 300.

For TMNT I was a year or two late and missed the first printing of number one, but I do have many of what were published after 1984, along with many other independent comics.

You'll have to do a little better than that...I was offered a
$100.00 for it back in 1980.

I have a few books that I bought in the 90's that are worth substantially more that what I paid for them. The few books below were purchased for .20 each.

I also picked up 4 copies of Preacher #1 at a garage sale. The seller stated her brother owned a comic book store, that closed down, and had his boxes stored at his mom's home. The seller told the brother the boxes were taking up too much space at the mom's house and asked if she could sell some of his books. The brother told her she could as long as she didn't tell her what she sold and the price. There were about 4 boxes of 90's books for 4/$1. The Preachers were overlooked since everyone was looking for books with Deadpool appearances.

I got the 4 graded and it came back with 2 CGC 9.8, 1 CGC 9.6, and a CGC 9.4.
