Well, let's get all of the "you're old" jokes out of the way.

I turned 65 today.

Yea Medicare, and blue pills.

Boo just about everything else.

On a side note. My family is taking this "he collects comic books" stuff way too seriously. For instance, they had me a party yesterday and most of the gifts were Batman related. I actually received Batman socks. Along with several Batman t-shirts (one of which my oldest son got me the exact same shirt for last Christmas). A Funko Pop Batman thingy. The complete 120 episodes DVD collection of the 60's Batman series. A Batman ball cap.

About the only things I got that was not Batman related, was a giant TV remote. This thing is the size of a lap top.

Enough with the superhero stuff boys and girls. There is life outside of the Marvel and DC Universes. How about a puppy or something.

Happy Biryhday, Walt ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿ™Œ

And yeah, I get the comic related gifts from relatives on birthdays and Christmas, too.

I'm not one to poo-poo getting gifts either, it's the thought that counts, after all....but besides that, my response to getting comic related gifts, as if that is all that I care for, is pretty much this:

The problem isnโ€™t comic related gifts. Itโ€™s corny comic related gifts.

Give me a collectible first appearance book any day.

Happy birthday Walt, you old bastard! I mean that as a term of endearment, as you have earned it. Although you are 7 years older than me, I have started to look at age, gray hair, reading glasses, and scars as badges of courage and endurance. They might slow me down a little or inconvenience me a bit, but they sure as hell aren't going to stop me from doing what I love to do. You, my friend, are a survivor, and from what you have shared with me about yourself, you are a great family man, a passionate husband, an honorable person, and one tough SOB. Enjoy your day (and all the senior discounts) and be thankful for what we have. I am thankful for all you have shared and continue to share with us, on these forums and through PM's.

Thanks all. And thanks for the future gift suggestions. Although they are all comic book related. Even the cute puppy.

Y'all must be family.

To add insult to injury. My daughter-in-law baked me a German Chocolate cake. My favorite.

But since I am not allowed to have chocolate and I avoid sugar. I guess I will just smell it and remember the good ole days.

Okay. On to the next 65 years. Gonna be better this time around. Because I finally know what I did right and what I did wrong the first 65.

You are the same age as my older brother (7 years older than me). He's the one that got me hooked on comic books. As I was growing up, his friends would come over and trade books and talk about the stories (they were avid Superman and DC fans). They would watch the Georege Reeves Superman re-runs and since we were one of the first in the neighborhood to have a color TV, when the Adam West Batman TV show came out, they would all come over to watch that. Of course, me being 4, 5, 6 years old at the time, all of those colorful comic books were irresistible. There was one book he had that really caught my attention; Metal Men #14. I became so obsessed with the Metal Men, my mother bought me a subscription. Well, the rest is history as they say and here we are over 50 years later still appreciating the hobby. So here's to you and your generation that passed the torch of comic book collecting, (and gave me all your old books when cars and girls became more important-at least that's what happened to my brother and his friends)! Thanks and "Happy Birthday"
