Found a book in the wild I have been looking for for a very long time and is next to impossible to find, Menace #5, first Simon Garth The Zombie. I picked it up at a great price. However, there is a cut out coupon. Is this an automatic .5 grade since it is not complete?

Automatic 0.5 from CGC, but it may get as high as 1.0 I believe from CBCS.

I am not sure that a coupon out of a non-story page "automstically" results in a .05 from CGC.

Either way, I think with a book like this, you can request a Qualified Grade from CGC, instead of a Universal grade.

I think a Qualified Grade, in the case of a coupon out, is the way to go if a book is a nicer grade.

A higher grade like a 7.0 qualified label will almost certainly give you a better return, over a 0.5 or 1.0 Universal. At least that is my impression....but if you disagree, just look at the all black background of the Cap Marvel CGC 7.0 slab that Marty posted.

That is a cherry copy..
A GA book with a a black cover in that grade is remarkable.

Now, if that Cap Marvel book was in a Universal slab with a .5 or 1.0 grade...buyers may overlook the overwhelmingly positive attributes of that books' comdition, just because the grade is pegged so damn low.

Would you rather have a rag with stains and pieces out of the front cover, in a 0.5 or 1.0 universal slab....or a sharp copy with a coupon clipped from a non-story page in a 7.0 qualified label?

The latter, all day long, gets my vote.

I think CGC just spins a wheel and gives a comic it's grade based upon where needle lands. That's my theory anyway.

A perfect example IMHO is all the IH 181 out there with no value stamp. How many of you would buy a .5 or a 1.0 universal or a 7.0 or 9.0 qualified?
