https://m.ebay.com/itm/Amazing-Spider-Man-300-CGC-9-6-1st-Venom-UNPRESSED-CPR-9-8-CANDIDATE/202111589910?hash=item2f0eca1e16:g:T~kAAOSwTQtaBRmQ Picked this slab up, along with about 15 other CGC slabs, over this past week, from the original owner/original submitter. He did not have any of his books pressed, before subbing them. I have yet to list most of the slabs, they are all going up on eBay tomorrow. This ASM 300 has favorable potential to CPR at 9.8. If I were taking bets, I'd give it at a minimum a coin toss, at a 9.8 with a CPR. Likely, 60 to 40 odds of fetching a 9.8 with a CPR. |

@CopperAgeKids if odds are in favour - why not try to get it pressed and slabbed yourself?

It looks more like about a 9.68 to me after all the measuring/mechanical devices that determine the objective grade are finished grading the comic... oh yea... that's right... it's subjective

I'll have to remember this. When I go to sell my unpressed 9.8's, I'll market them as potential 10.0's and bump up the price

If I were absolutely certain thst I can get a 9.8 by CPR'ing it myself, I would wait intil I sub books to CGC at WinterCon, the first week of December, and prep it for grading myself. I do not like subbing raws through the mail to CGC or CBCS. I strongly prefer (for numerous reasons) to sub books in person to either CGC or CBCS, at conventions. If I can get $800 for the book now, as is, I will take it. If not, I will crack her open before I go to WinterCon in December, and press it, myself. |

Quote:Originally Posted by Logan510 The book has mulgiple spine ticks thst do not break color. Note the slight recess at the top staple, which would be corrected with a press. This recess would be resposible for uneven pressure on a book's spine, shich is what would have caused non color breaking spine ticks, originally. The downstream effect of the pressure was not significant enough to break color, save a tiny CB near the top staple. There is a non-color breaking finger bend on the top RC of the FC. Another pressable defect. The only defect I can see thst could possibly deter the book from definitively hitting a 9.8 is the 2 small dings, at the top of the FC, middle of the cover. The slightly larger ding looks to be a finger bend, the paper is bent forward. Pressing will flatten the larger ding, where the paper is visibly bent. There will likely be a color break present at that area, after pressing. A press will remove 3,out of the 4,visible and noted defects. Here is the breakdown: 1) Spine ticks 2) Top staple recession 3) Finger bend at RC of FC. 4) Tiny edge wear & finger bend top middle of FC, The fourth defect will be partially remedied with a press. There will still be a minute color break after the top mid area of the FC (2nd pic) is pressed out, with a much smaller minute edge abrasion to the left of it, clearly visible in the second picture...and 2 other close up shots I provided. Conservatively speaking, this works out to a coin toss. I spent over 2K this past week on books. I have thousands more tied up, in unpressed books, Ya wanna see a pic of 3 desks with stacks of books that I need to press before I have them graded? Than pics of every single flat surface in my basement....it is not pretty. The question is do I want to wait another 2 months to *possibly* maximize my profit or just cash out at what a recent CGC 9.6 sold at? Answer: I have a hundred books, easy, that I need to press and sub at WinterCon. Sitting right next to me is a Journey Into Mystery 103 that will.likely get an 8.0, after I press and sub it. It will take an hour just to dry clean it....and the Ragnarok movie is already in theaters. I bought this JIM #103 around 2 years ago for around $150, IIRC. I have plenty of books like this. This slabbed ASM 300 may catch a 9.8 with a press but it may stay at 9.6. It is not pressed, but it is already slabbed. I probably..well....I really should just CPR the ASM 300 myself, but at the same time, I need to rein myself in from hoarding books. |

Why does every post sound like a tutorial or a used car sales pitch? If you are going to sell a book, list it and sell it. It really is that simple. |

Quote:Originally Posted by CopperAgeKids I wasn't saying anything about the price. Seems fair enough, you have it about in the middle of other similarly graded books. I was commenting on the seed you planted by suggesting it has the possibility of grading higher if the buyer cracks it open, has it pressed and regraded. I also didn't say there was anything wrong with it, just that it was an interesting marketing tactic. More power to ya! |

Quote:Originally Posted by OGJackster It is actually priced on the higher side, 90 day GPA average is $680 & trending upward. High sale for 2017 in cgc 9.6 is $1050, low sale for 2017 is at $350.Low sale had to be before the Venom movie was confirmed, high at $1050 was probably right around when the movie was confirmed. Most recent 3 sales were $598,$800 and $700. It likely would have already sold within a day, if I priced it at just under $700 i.e. 90 day GPA. I'd feel like a chump though, if I listed it at $680, knowing it has a decent chance at a 9.8 with a CPR. |

I will happily let it go, but duuuude....I can't, in good conscience, let the last post in a thread which I started....end up with a Little Mermaid meme. How about we agree to (mildly) disagree over a bit of mutual ball polishing, courtesy of The Big Lebowski? Sounds pretty good to me. : backs away slowly : |
