What print run TMNT issues 3 and 42384

Collector no1lufcfan private msg quote post Address this user
Hi all

I have issues 1-4 of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1984)

Issue 1 is a third printing (says 3rd printing/February 1985) inside cover.

Issue 2 is a second printing (says 2nd printing/January 1985) inside cover.

However issues 3 and 4 have no details of what print issue they are.

Any ideas how I could find out.

3-2nd printing; contains new back-story
4-first printing (1985, 44 pgs.)
4-2nd printing (5-87) all; have manufacturing error

The first prints of #3 and #4 are the larger (taller) format. Second prints on both are regular comic size.

#3 and #4 first printings are magazine size, the same size (approx.) as the #1 and #2 third and second printings that you have.

Here's what they look like:

If you have the above, they're first prints.

For reference, the only Turtles printed in the magazine size format was #1 (1st, 2nd, 3rd), #2 (1st, 2nd), #3 (1st, NYC), #4 (1st only), and Raphael #1.

And Fugitoid, if you want to get really precise.

I don't think Fugitoid appeared until TMNT #5

Fugitoid's a magazine size book, with a story that starts in Fugitoid #1, and continues in TMNT #5:

Here's my Lairds photo variant, from Eastman's personal collection, as noted by CGC

This book is very expensive, and there are less than 20 known with a grade of 9.4 or higher. This is one of the highest graded on census btw

This is Laird's second printing of issue #1...

I also have Laird's Fugitoid #1 signed, and a lot of his toys and comics from the Mirage Studio basement

So here is the #4 with manufacturer's error

this was hard to obtain:

LEFT: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #4, 2nd printing error. (error)
RIGHT: Tales of the TMNT #1 first printing. (correct)

Only 1000 of these were not destroyed. Peter Laird states he'd "be surprised if there are more than 500"

Someone at Mirage Studios failed when they printed the Tales of the TMNT #1 cover on the 2nd printing of TMNT #4 regular series cover.

Thanks for all the replies and info folks.

Here’s my 3 and 4 raw but not as in good a shape as the ones you have posted so probably not worth slabbing.

My #4 Raw, still waiting on CBCS to do magazines as well.

Here's Laird's Raphael mini-series magazine size comic book, signed by Eastman when he came to Seattle a few years ago. First appearance and cover of Casey Jones

Only Raphael was done in magazine size. It's also the first appearance of Casey Jones, which is why it's more valuable.

The others were all done in standard comic book size...

1988 Archie Comics
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures
Volume 1
Issue 1
First Printing
Full Color

1st appearance of General Krang (Tetsu-Oni)
1st appearance of Bebop (Anton Zeck)
1st appearance of Rocksteady (Ivan Steranko)
1st appearance of Foot Soldiers (Group)

"Heroes in a Half-Shell!"

The true first appearance of Krang. In Volume 1 of Mirage Studios run, in issue #3 there is mention of an alien race called Ultrom. The alien on the cover of issue 7 first printing and second printing is of a random mentioned Ultrom alien, not Krang. Krang was introduced as part of the animated cartoon series to act as a buffer between the constant power struggle between the Turtles and Shredder.

#7 Second Printing cover zoom in of Utrom Alien. This one is becoming hard to find. Grab them if you see one! They can go for astronomical prices.
