If you want to bludgeon someone with a comic, PSA should be your first choice.

This was sparked by Dr Watson's CBCS label retrospective. I know a lot of collectors have some levels of OCD. I also know that a common refrain is to buy the book, not the label. So how many different labels can you stomach?![]() I really don't care overmuch about labels, although I do prefer ones that say CBCS. Anybody got a worse collection? |

| @GAC I have a few of them now. They do have Newton rings, but not to the extent that CGC does. They aren't as optically clear as CBCS slabs. The labels are terrible, both ugly and uninformative. But the inner holder and slab construction are impressive. No worries about shaken book syndrome at all. Grading seems generally okay as far as accuracy. Definitely a better product than CGC, but not up to the standard set by CBCS. | ||

| @James42 Thats what I've heard...seems to be building to a consensus....PSA is better than CGC (low bar to beat) but not as good as CBCS (gold standard in 3rd party grading). PSA has good holder construction, fairly accurate grading....but the rest needs improvement. I was considering trying PSA but I'll just stick with CBCS. Thanks. |

Quote:Originally Posted by GAC I'll cosign on here as well, since I recently received my submission of about 30 books back from PSA. As mentioned above, the labels are what they are. I purposefully submitted all new modern books that I felt would look best with PSA's current label. Grade-wise, I would say that they are on point. I got back one 9.2, two 9.4s, two 9.6s, twenty-two 9.8s, and two 10.0s. I didn't find any discrepancies with the notes or the grades, and certainly some genuinely honest 9.8s unlike CGC. These were new Marvel books that are printed on tissue paper, so I made the effort to have them pressed hard stacked atop one another between heavier boards at home for a while before submitting, and thankfully they flattened out perfectly. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The cases themselves are wonderful. Strong, sturdy, hefty, very secure. While somewhat opaque around the edges, the display is clear with a what can best be described as a matte finish in only the lightest of touches. Presents beautifully. The newton rings aren't as bad as the larger CGC splotches from before, and not on every book. I'd recommend that everyone interested find one to physically handle in your hands and see with your eyes before casting dispersions, but I think they're great. CBCS is still the favorite overall for me, but PSA certainly has its strengths. |

| @CapCityComics Very cool! I've heard the PSA slabs are beefy....like CBCS's current slabs (which I love). Thankfully their slabs are the same standard dimensions because it seemed for a while, they were going to be larger. I don't like the grade on the right, I prefer it on the left. It seems like an arbitrary decision to be different from the competition....labels are not my "cup of tea"....but I welcome legitimate competition in the market. |
