Dozens of MCS consignors' slabs not worth slabbing; 2022 Spec boom subs??21679

I have not set up at a con since 2029. PolarisNuclearSS2020 private msg quote post Address this user
Alternate thread title:

How to lose money on paying for 3rd party comic book grading

....I was perusing Mycomicshop's upcoming auctions and saw this book; a Ghost Rider #47 CGC 4.0 NEWSSTAND EDITION. LOL

https://www.mycomicshop.com/search?ItemID=62604095

And there are around 60 more slabs, in this vein, all from one consignor.

I saw that it is being auctioned by a MCS consignor that sells enough books with MCS to have his own "store" page on MCS.

I than had to wonder, what other $1.00 box fodder encased in CGC slabs could this guy be auctioning off, and how the Hell did he obtain these slabs?

Bought in a collection for pennies on the dollar or was he the original submitter of this drek?

Is @DoctorEdwardsEmporium a boardie on here or on the CGC forums?
Here's his upco ing auctions...all dollar books that even a novice dealer in the height of the 2022 comic boom would know better than to submit these books.

Here's the good doctor's auction listings:

Now, you may say that mid grade 90's chud is another man's Rolls Royce os someing to that effect, and that's fine....but, ughhhh.

I don't see a single book out of the 2 pages worth of slabbed books that is worth the $20 CGC modern grading fee, do you?

Hmm... might have been someone's childhood collection and they wanted to encapsulate it not knowing better or the sentimental.value alone was enough? It's strange but at the of the day, that's someone else's money spent. Let's just enjoy the Hobbie

Comic grading isn't his thing but he does seem to know a lot about writing. It also looks like he's been through hell with a lot of health issues.

He even played someone named Dr Edward's on the Walking Dead.

That rabbit hole you went down is kind of funny though.

Maybe the comics are donations. Google indicates he sells comics to raise money for kids with childhood cancer.

For many common comics, MCS will only accept slabs (not raw) as consignments. Just a guess as to why he may have made this choice with these books?

It's highly unlikely that it is part of the 2022 spec boom since it is a 45 serial number slab. Those only began issue in 2024.

What is highly likely is that it is a 4.0 boomerang banana slab. At least the bends won't affect the grade.

People slab for more than one reason.

I've slabbed a few that were definitely borderline for the simple reason that I didn't want there to be any question about condition. Of course now with CGC you still question the condition, but that's by far another subject.

I have, and I am sure most who do slab, have slabs that are almost worthless....to everyone except them.

The only logic I can offer is this: "People will always collect their way."

That is pretty much it. And I am saying this as a hobbyist that has both lost a ton of money, and reasons why that happened. With one of those examples being tied to the moment I sold the last of my Marvel collection. With one comic I sold being a near-argument because CGC never did mark it as a "first appearance" issue.

With everything else already being said by others.

I say this all the time regardless of the grading company, what was graded, and so on.

Because in the end, the one thing that'll attack QC are those quotas. And I say that not because it was the one thing a former grader has told me, but also because I had both submitted and bought non-CGC related stuff that arrived either being over-graded or with a QC issue.

Both, tied to select CBCS comics in 2022. Which is why I would buy CBCS (as I love the new label) if it fills in a gap, and take close looks at pics (while praying) when it comes to CGC.
