I'm sure that's who they are copied from...the THREE STOOGES were very popular back then.

To me, there was always something special about the weekly SPIRIT Sections that
came in the Sunday newspaper. The stories and art seemed different from my favorite
comic books.

"American Bankers Association"...such simpler times. What are the details behind Peter Penny? Was it about the virtues of saving money? Was it drawn or written by anyone who became known in other comic books?

@martymann just curious, did other people, such as friends and family, read or look through your comic books as you were accumulating your collection?

Some friends and I would read each others comics...it was a good way to read books you
might not buy.
Thanks for asking!

I have an appreciation for your books being a childhood collection. The high-grade Pedigrees that we see tend to be from people who collected as adults or late-teens and preserved them well. If they were collected as kids, they must not have had any friends who they let read the books. Yours are mostly mid-grade and I figure they probably had a pretty full life and were well-read before going into storage.

Never saw these on the newsstand but was happy to find them in the store
that sold remainder comics...the same store that sold loose cigarettes to
kids for a penny each.

Not only did the distributor remove a third of the cover but many
sprayed or painted the edges of the book with blue or black ink.
Still they made it to the corner store for re-sale.

WEIRD FANTASY #7

It appears that CGC considers this "color touch" and grades the book as RESTORED even
with a third of the cover missing.
