9.4 grade20955

Why does it seem like the 9.4 grade does not recieve much love? There seems to be a steep drop off in value between the 9.6 to the 9.4. And sometimes the value of the 9.2 is equal to or higher than the 9.4. Maybe I am just misinterpreting the market. Just curious I am missing something. Thanks for any input. Apologies if this has been addressed before. |

Man, idk. I feel like you can't see any difference at that grade level. I'd be super happy with a 9.4.

a 9.4 is meaningful outside of modern, imo

I think it depends on the grading notes. A 9.4 could possibly begraded that way due to uncorrectable issues like a color breaking spine tick soo that's where it will stay at. A 9.2 might have correct able issues thay can bump em to a 9.6 and maybe even a 9.8.

I’ve just had problems reconciling the discrepancies in values on eBay. Maybe it is combination of what Andy49 and TheShocker are saying. The age of the book and the correctable defects may be the variables contributing to the discrepancies in values. 🤷♂️ |

you've got to look at the book and determine for yourself if you think the book matches the grade there a lot of books I wouldn't buy based on book appearance vs assigned grade |

@andy49 that’s understandable. “Buy the book, not the grade”.

@Hexigore It has been my experience that 9.2 is often the more overlooked grade.

9.0-9.6 overlooked by the 9.8 or nothing crowd. I guess you could say all grades lower than 9.8 are over looked by the 9.8 crowd

To me it depends on the age. This is my opinion on run books non keys. Golden age 8.0 up Silver age 9.2 up Bronze age 9.4 up Copper age 9.6 up (Newsies) direct 9.8 up Modern age 9.8 up |

@DrWatson Considering the books have no "real" value, the cover art is the only attraction, and even a 8.5 can present well: cheap smut is the best smut.

It's all about presentation to me. There are great looking 8.0/8.5s as well....when the price of a book of a given grade deviates so greatly from the grade just below it, that's an indication to me the price is inflated for that grade. I'll buy the book with grade just below. |

I'm a firm believer in by the book, not the grade, but I'm also a bit of a grade snob. I don't like going below an 8.5 on Silver Age books (preferably 9.0/9.2), 9.4/9.6 on Bronze, and 9.8 on Copper and newer. I can partially lay the blame on OCD. |

@flanders That's a really really nice looking book. Grader Notes say a Stain in middle and other smaller stains on front cover? Here's my thought. If a tree falls in the woods; does it make a sound if nothing alive hears it? If there's a stain that can only be seen by electron microscope, is it a stain to the bare human eye? Kinda kidding but damn that Nick Fury book looks good and I certainly can't see any stains from that picture. That's for sure. |
