Mark Jewelers Inserts value20841

I've never looked into MJ inserts, how much do they increase book values?

I got an Iron Man #125 (1979) thats a MJ insert with verified sigs by Bob Layton, David Michelline and John Romita Jr. cbcs 7.0. What's the estimated value on this guy?

I looked on GPAnalysis and they don't have any Mark Jewelers listed for #125.

I did find one on issue #122

Prices on keys can be crazy! When I can't find a price on one, I look for a Canadian Price Variant. They're usually slightly higher in value to those.

Here is a good 2020 article about MJ's: GoCollect

Here's the current listing for Werewolf by Night:

thanks I can’t imagine because I didn’t join the forces but being 18 freash out of boot a little scared. Then you find the px and buy a comic book for a normalcy an comfort. the comics got tossed around shared stuffed in foot locker’s eventually makeing their way to the civilian side they are treasures for sure I only have two of them in my collection.

All Mark Jewelers are Newsstands, so condition can be tough!

If you live near a military base you are more likely to find them. I live near a large Army base and the local LCS really only deals in new books. I have yet to find any.

here’s the x men 96 that I have with one I bought it to fill a hole in my run. Not knowing it was a jewelers insert. I was surprised to find out it was when I opened it up. The other one I have is also an uncanny x men 131 I didn’t take photos of it when I got it. I find it neat comic history one of our young American men a shoulder far away from home on a base had this read it in their down time as entertainment.

I have only these 4. Hard to determine values if raw or graded sales that are private & not recorded

I have a very small collection of them that I bought from MCS at basically no premium to the regular price. I like them for the history that they represent. Just wanted some cheapies, wasn't really concerned with condition. From my small amount of experience, I do think that the "premium" goes up exponentially with condition and with market demand for the non-MJ version. A book in low demand and mid-grade will have virtually no premium as far as value added from the MJ insert. A book in high demand and high grade should have significant premium. Also, it seems that all MJ books are also Newsstand covers, from what I can tell. It seems that MJ's are a sliver of the Newsstand print run, which itself was often a sliver of the overall (Modern) print run.

I’ve found a few and it makes the hunt a lil more fun when you find one. I’ve wondered what the percentage of intact copies would be vs copies with the inserts ripped out for purchases.

Yea - the high grade ones are where the super premium is at.

Any quick way to determine if there is an MJ insert? Can you tell from looking at the top of a book through the bag?

Sometimes you can tell by looking at the top. It's not always visible. I think I read somewhere the later books are real hard to see from the top. You can sometimes tell by looking at the page edge on the right side.

sometimes as @Belarak mentioned. You can see the edge of the insert. I’d have to find mine to give an example, but mine show as a darker line in center and if I remember correctly also slightly thicker than the pages.

I was just admiring that cover on MCS a few minutes ago. I have a mid-grade copy of it, but not Mark Jeweler. I put together a mostly-complete run of mid-grade Weird War Tales over the past year...a couple of Mark Jewelers in the mix. The coloring makes that one of my favorite covers.

I LOVE MGI'S!
I also love any other inserts, but..... I would usually only buy them in 9.2 or better unless a key issue or pretty rare.
IMHO BTW and how I collect, or I can pay a very low price.
