Effective Jan 24 CGC changes membership and pricing20375

Ima gonna steal this and look for some occasion to use it! IronMan private msg quote post Address this user
Effective yesterday - Jan 24 - with no advance notice the following changes were made at CGC.

Free CGC memberships now have submission privileges.

The least expensive ($25 a year) membership gets 10% off grading and comic pressing

The middle tier ($149 a year) gets the same 10% off but also gets a grading credit for $150. Making the membership essentially free.

The Elite membership ($299 a year) gets 20% off plus the $150 grading credit.

Also - I think this is new - CGC memberships allow submission to NCG and PMG. Maybe I missed this but I believe it's a change. Correct me if wrong.

The Vintage tier increases in retail price from $37 to $40.

Modern tier pressing price is now $12. If you've been looking, Modern tier pressing prices at CCS were $15 like forever. Then $10 for a few months last year. And now $12. Other prices unchanged.

The membership prices now offer discounts on both grading AND pressing. Previously memberships only had discounts on grading.

Just sharing. CBCS still enjoys a grading price advantage on most submission tiers, but it this shrinks it. And CBCS continues to offer services CGC does not - like signature verification, ART label and encapsulation only.

In the world of slabbed comic collecting, many people worry that the popular CGC slabs can be easily tampered with – comics switched out and resealed without anyone noticing. While experts might catch these changes, most collectors wouldn’t. That’s where CBCS comes in with their tamper-proof cases. These cases are a big deal because they provide a strong solution to the problem. They’re high-quality and give collectors confidence that their comics are secure, making CBCS a game-changer for the slabbed comic collecting community.

If the viagra is working you should be well over a 9.8. xkonk private msg quote post Address this user
It's going to work. Plenty of people only care about the bottom line, and there are CBCS fans on this forum who send to CGC because they sell better. If they can save money on their submission they're going to keep using them.

I wonder if people will stop using CGC as much because of the old saying, you get what you pay for. It could backfire and it could not. I can't predict what is going to happen, but maybe that would be something people consider. I don't know

Another thing that I just thought of is from a revenue perspective. They will be bringing in less money and that flows to the staff

Before I even started to get a comic graded I found out cgc wanted to charge me to be a member of the cgc club then pay money to slab the comic this isn’t a sams club or Costco I didn’t go for it at all I watched reviews on YouTube and the guy said these cbcs slabs feel sold like they ain’t gonna snap in two in my hands it I drop it and they don’t have nuton rings I then looked up cbcs and there is no membership dues you just sing up submitted your comics pay and then mail them off. I am glad I went with cbcs back then they have a far superior product than cgc I mean how many years have they been in business and they have t figured out the nuton ring thing yet.

What I am saying is cgc is just a cash grab company they haven’t really improved there slabs cbcs has cbcs first to give you free grader notes for free cgc what they do charge you for grader notes then they back peddling to make them free. It’s just poorly ran cash grab they don’t care to fix the nuton rings or improve the way they do stuff. It’s just how I see it but I ain’t a cgc fan boy.

you can put lipstick on a pig, it will still be a pig

CGC used to mean something, it had prestige, even more value than a cbcs. But with errors, mistakes, faulty slabs, etc its become a joke. giving slight incentives doesnt fix their problems

yes cbcs has mistakes or slab issues (heck very long wait times...dont know if those are back or still fast like last june) but not as often

My last Standard submission was two weeks from FedEx to my house. I dropped them at FedEx on Friday 29 December and they were on my front porch on 12 January. Two weeks! That included the New Years holiday.

I can't say the next one will be that fast. There could be a lot of rats jumping off the CGC ship. I might find out when I drop books off at Megacon.

Slight correction, not "Tamper-proof". CBCS encasements are "Tamper-evident". Try open with heatgun, laser, etc., it becomes very evident and unsaleable.

Funny, I was looking at all the "tampers"
Tamper Proof
Tamper Evident
Tamper Resistant

I wonder though - is anything really completely Tamper Proof? Unless there's a Hulk out there that can even get into Fort Knox
