Help With Identifying a Book19470

Collector Ryan4421 private msg quote post Address this user
I have an Amazing Fantasy 15 reprint signed by Stan Lee and slabbed by a non-reputable company (I bought it this way...I know). I want to submit it for the VSP promotion and I only want CBCS to crack the slab if they can authenticate the signature. The current slab has no indication of the publication date and I am having a hard time identifying which reprint it is to submit the book. I know I can't show slabs from off-brand graders so I'm just showing the book to see if anyone can help recognize which one this is. This one has no bar codes and no borders around the cover image and shows 12 cent price on the cover. Any help would be appreciated and thanks in advance.

very hard to tell which reprint. watch this video. based on it, yours could be a fake reprint. every repornt I see has a very distinct look. like masterworks or facmile. or a completely different cover. if true Id assume the signature is fake. on reddit there is another copy someone is asking with the same look. they all say counterfit. again. likely signature is fake. a fake to look real, with a fake big sig...sell for big bucks

Is it possible that it’s a facsimile reprint? The label doesn’t give any indication?

I think you have fake/custom print or a reprint with a repop cover. For the label have any identifiers?

Best of luck. I almost posted this auction a couple weeks ago because of the label picture they photoshopped to create the new company CGX.

A bar code and modern price actually disqualifies them as a “facsimile.” Marvel and DC are not using the term correctly and a true facsimile is and EXACT copy.

they use term in reference to the interior layout and original time period ads, but you’re not wrong👍🏻

So it’s an unauthorized replica (true facsimile), most likely.

Just because it’s a copy, doesn’t mean the signature is fake. Someone could have just had a replica and got SL to sign it.

Not sure if cbcs would grade it, but they might verify the signature. But you should contact them and ensure it wouldn’t be rejected as they may not want to even handle a book that violates trademark laws.

Thanks for the help everyone. The Disney one and the 3.99 version are the closest ones but they look a bit too glossy and modern. Also, both of those were printed after Stan died. This book looks almost like it's made out of newspaper.

We do not grade or encapsulate counterfeit comics. If it is an authorized reprint by Marvel Comics, we'd be glad to help you. Otherwise, we would have to pass. I can't guarantee that we could identify it without taking it out of the case it is in, so submit it at your own risk.

This might be a reprint cover on a facsimile reprit to make it look closer to the original. Here is an example:

Also, take a closer look at how the pages look from the outside (yellowish, powdery, signs of the book being handled)

I have seen such online. taking a facmile and giving it a more true cover. graded as a NG. that could be what we are seeing. every reprint ive seen online does not match the cover. masterworks is the most obvious with the silver frame (with masterworks on the frame), facsmile we all know. others have a different name (like Spiderman classics) and/or a different image

Doubtful it's that. According to the description for the journal, it's "Approx. 160 pages" with "Lined pages with interspersed comics panels." That's basically a notebook.

And the journal back cover:
