Recently (past few days) an 8.5 sold for $300, a 9.0 for $280 and another for $311, and a 9.2 for $295. Couldn't find anything in a lower grade than the 8.5, and obviously raw copies are selling for a lot less.

Ok. I’m sending it back. I realized that I actually don’t want a low grade, I wanted a 9.8. And this book will never be a 9.8 no matter the pressing.

@multi007
I'd do the same. That colour-breaking crease is pretty big. The book would have to be graded in order to make your money back and by the time you got the graded book back, the hype will be long gone.

Who knows? Maybe the seller will learn something after losing such a big sale due to rubbish packaging. Wouldn't bet on it, though...

They sent a $500 book in that and via media mail!?!?! Please post the seller names so we can add them to our blocked list.

This seller will learn their lesson, after any possible insurance claim is denied. Don't they require photos of the package and packaging? I don't think they'll pay out if the seller didn't even attempt to protect the package.

If it matters, He took full responsibility, he felt horrible. His message to me was “I should have known. I’m so sorry. I fully understand any decision you make.”

At least he has integrity to handle the return properly.

This is key.

Hopefully they’ve learned their lesson. An expensive one…

Also, they likely don’t regularly sell comics. The sale price alone merited far more care.

That does sound like the seller had a learning experience.

Cannot tell you how much I resent it when a seller makes a rubbish packaging mistake, Eff's up your item, then can't soldier up and admit they could have done better.

Not as bad as the other stories here, but I just won two auctions from the same seller. I go to the 'request combined shipping' option and it says the seller has that disabled. I messaged to ask for an invoice hoping he would combine anyway; no dice. So now I'm paying double shipping that costs half as much as the comics I won, and found a buyer not to buy from again.

I've run into that, too, but aside from one jerk a couple years back I've always had luck with getting the seller to partially refund the shipping. Naturally, when that happens to a buyer who shops with me, I will always either (a) send the combined invoice, or (b) give a partial refund if the buyer has already paid. The buyer does not need to request, either. If I see a buyer has bought multiple items from me and eBay didn't automatically combine them, I'll do it myself. Fleecing buyers is how you do NOT get repeat customers.

I've always wondered if they take the advice better if you don't get worked up. I try not to go ballistic, too. Gets tough sometimes, though.

Ebay seems to be a place where those in charge want to drive towards a 100% rating for all Users regardless of reality & facts.

Non-Paying Buyers - still have 100% rating
Sellers who have proven, documented issues - neutral feedback removed
Other shenanigans

Their numerical rating system is about as valuable as........... PGX's grading system

I got to be the lousy ebay seller this week. I had the same book for sale on eBay and Shortboxed. Not a big one - Batman 656 in 9.6. It sold on Shortboxed.

I live in Dallas, where everything's been closed most of the week as the city acquired a frictionless coating of ice, so the book hadn't shipped yet. Yesterday, I get an ebay message about the book. Apparently it sold there too and eBay just didn't send me a notification (or even an email). The eBay buyer was asking when I would ship. Checking the time stamps of the sale, I saw it sold on Shortboxed two minutes before it sold on eBay (which was kind of a relief, as I'd already printed the Shortboxed mailing label). Normally, I'd have gone to eBay immediately and closed the listing, but it's been a weird week, my power's been spotty at best and I got wrapped up trying to get in touch with Shortboxed to have them tell the buyer shipping would be delayed (we haven't had mail service since Monday). So I neglected to check the listing. My fault entirely there.

I sent the eBay buyer an apology for the inconvenience and my delay in responding, explaining that eBay hadn't notified me of the sale, that it sold on Shortboxed just before and offering an extra discount on any other listing I have to make up for it.

Got a very passive aggressive response back about books mysteriously no longer being for sale when he finds a good deal and he wouldn't consider any other listing I had. He obviously thinks I'm refusing to send him the book because I think the value is going up. Dude, the book's not that valuable.

Edit: And he left me some ugly feedback. Ugh. Tiresome.

My fav packaging surpise was a a copy of Avengers #55 (first Ultron) I bought on eBay. Nice raw copy for $50. It arrived a few weeks later from California, in a plain manila envelop, it wasn't in a comic bag. no cardboard --just tossed into an envelop and mailed. Miraculously, it arrived fine.

I did send a note that sending a comic like that was .... not wise.

I still can't figure out how she would be selling some mildly expensive comics like that on eBay. Ah well.

I once had a page of original comic art ROLLED UP in a cardboard tube.

I emailed the eBay seller, and he gave me the usual diatribe about "Iv been in busines for over twenty years and I no what Im doing"

[the spelling mistakes you see in the quotes is a direct quote from the seller - so, YEAH]
