I don't know about this. I think it will be hard to replace Margot Robbie. She plays sexy-ditzy-scary so well!

Margot Robbie: Lady Gaga will be “incredible” as Harley Quinn in Joker 2
by Ashley Hurst

So far as live-action movies go, Margot Robbie is the face of Harley Quinn. It’s hard to imagine anyone else playing the iconic villain, but in Todd Phillips’ upcoming Joker sequel, subtitled Folie à Deux (which translates to “madness shared by two”), Quinn is played by none other than Lady Gaga.

Casting another actress as Harley in Joker 2 makes perfect sense. Robbie plays the character in the DCEU (DC Extended Universe), a singular continuity of interconnected DC movies. Meanwhile, the Joker series stands on its own. As much as I loved Robbie’s stand-out performances, I welcome a fresh take on the character. And Joker 2 is a musical, so it probably helps to have a performer like Lady Gaga in the mix.

Margot Robbie isn’t salty about missing out at all. In fact, she embraces seeing another take on the villain. “It makes me so happy,” she told MTV News. “Because I said from the very beginning: all I want is for Harley Quinn to be one of those characters, the way Macbeth or Batman always gets passed from great actor to great actor.”

Seeing the baton get passed is part and parcel of any superhero role. Look at all the actors who have played Batman, Spider-Man, Superman, and so on. “It’s such an honor to have built a foundation strong enough that Harley can now be one of those characters that other actors get to have a go at playing,” Robbie said, adding that there are “not so many cases” where a female role has such staying power.

Margot Robbie thinks Lady Gaga will be an “incredible” Harley Quinn

Lady Gaga’s casting as Harley Quinn raised eyebrows when it was first announced. Some were disappointed that Robbie wasn’t involved, and some were thrilled that someone as high-profile as Gaga was taking on the role. Everyone was intrigued. “I think she’ll do something incredible with it,” Margot Robbie said.

If there was one way to get me totally on board with the sequel, it was by announcing Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn. Now I’m significantly more excited.

The cast continues to grow, with Deadline recently reporting that Industry star Harry Lawtey has joined the movie, although specifics about his role are currently under wraps. Joker 2: Folie à Deux is slated to premiere on October 4, 2024.

I understand being dubious about this, but I've been surprised by Lady Gaga's versatility before, so I'll give her a chance, especially if Margot Robbie approves. She doesn't strike me as someone who clams up and is too nervous to speak her mind.

Assuming the tone is anything like the first one, I don't think this will be the same kind of Harley that we've seen in other movies.

Lady Gaga isn't Harley Quinn sexy. That about sums it up.

As an entertainer, Lady Gaga is a hard-working professional and an over-achiever. Much like Madonna. I think we can assume that she will take the role seriously and put in the work to pull it off. I won't under-estimate her.

Lady Gaga is good...but is she CRAZY good?

Margot Robbie was one of the few good things about the first Suicide Squad. And she turned it up to 11 in the sequel. Though did have doubts as didnt like New Yorker accent but it worked

Lady Gaga...will have to wait and see.

I had doubts when they cast Robert Pattinson as Batman (thought "great Edward is Batman. An actor that looked like a man with no limbs can beat up" But I waited and when I saw movie thought he was very good (not the best but not the worst)

Robert Pattinson is a great actor confirmed by his performance in The Batman.

Lady Gaga is talented, period. In the context of the movie proposed (not in the vein of Suicide Squad, which was a great movie) she will do very well.

My prediction is that she's going to play it really similar to Audry from Little Shop of Horrors.

I'm excited to see what she does with it. I was pleasantly surprised by her in American Horror Story.

I would bet she removes almost all the "silliness" from Harley and brings a much darker and more sadistic take on her.

Put a mask on someone, even if it's makeup, and it often allows the person to open up is ways they never have. I think she'll do fine, and maybe even better than Robbie in terms of 'crazy'.

yeah.... I've never been a fan of Harley - too silly for me. I mean...wasn't the Joker her patient? i.e. she is a doctor/psychiatrist -I always thought there was a more serious side that was missing - sure hooking up with Joker allows one to set their silly side free but that serious side would still be there right?

I think a fresh different take on Harley will be something the general public (not comic geeks) will be more interested in - seems many liked the different take on Joker
