Occasionally I go to ebay type in CBCS or CGC or others, go to auction only, then sort by ending soonest. Got a stabbed 9.8 nothing book for $5, but it's still a first appearance and you never know.

Thanks for the suggestions but I'm really looking for PC stuff. Not slabs or items to resell, just covers that speak to me and represent my tastes. I'm not in any hurry, just looking for ideas to search for at conventions (or MCS) and pick up over the next year or two. Did a lot of selling over the last few months and now I'm returning to my collecting roots...buying for personal enjoyment rather than for spec.

@figment That Classic Illustrated Time Machine fits the bill, I will be bidding on that. Slabbed is stil good, just not a priority.

Understood, especially if you want to actually read them.

I can read them just fine through the plastic slab. Unless...are you saying there is something on the inside?

I was attempting to illustrate that you can find slabbed book with what I think are great covers for well under the costs associated with sending them in and getting them graded. The other upside is a 2-3 week wait to get those slabbed books in hand once the transaction is completed. I wasn’t even thinking about flipping them.

IMO, the market is in a the beginning stages of a major and overdo correction. I left - went into radio silence and popped back into the USA to find prices dropping. I am amazed at people writing about “as long as you didn’t buy anything in the last 14 or so months” you are still making money. It makes me chuckle when I see that.

I’m very glad I dumped my books when I did.

You pretty much called the peak of the market. I’m guessing the plateau lasted longer that you expected and maybe the decline has been slower than you expected. I’ve been anticipating an acceleration in the decline between July 4 and September 1. I figured it would take about 90 days before the rise in interest rates would resonate through the economy. Once the refinances stop and the home values turn south, all kinds of discretionary spending gradually slows down. It won’t be anything like 2008 though…homeowners are in far healthier mortgage situation today than they were in 2008.
