Any Updates with GoCollect?16700

Collector Terry88 private msg quote post Address this user
Is it just me, and my inexperience with the new terrible layout and function of the site, or can I really not delete books from my lists any more?

What are people using instead of this? I'm not looking for a monthly payment or anything and I dont need all the price checking stuff, but it would be great if it had some kind of functionality like that.

I started just building one in Excel that I'll maintain but I'd love a new web-based one.

The Value Report hasn't worked for me since the update.
I still prefer GoCollect's search, but I miss the Value Report.

I’m honestly curious about GoCollect’s site traffic after the redesign. Anecdotally, it seems a lot less useful to the everyday user but at the same time they added so many other collectibles. Did the added traffic make up for any loss from dissatisfied comic users? Was the hit from comics users significant overall or is it just a small group of non-paying users that left the site?

I hate GoCollect now. Thankfully comicspriceguide.com hasn't changed.

Alternatives to GoCollect would be:

ComicConnect (pretty good - this is a popular one)
CovrPrice (I like this one, but it does have an annual fee)
Nostomania (has no graphics which sucks, but some folks like this one. Don't know why)
StashMyComics (completely free of charge, but it can be a little annoying to use)
comicspriceguide (not my choice, but some folks like it)
ZapKapow (has an annoying search function but otherwise okay and has no monthly/annual fee, just a one-time 'buy-in'-style fee)
GPAnalysis (excellent research, but no graphics and only collects CGC-graded books, so pretty useless for anything else)

I have no doubt that I'm missing a few, but these are the ones that I can think of off the top of my head.

@dielinfinite I'm wondering how GoCollect's comics site has been doing lately, too. I have to say that it still has its uses, but I can't really think of any changes they made that were actually improvements.

Thanks a lot, I really wasnt sure if I was just missing something obvious.

What a crazy series of garbage changes.

I'll take a look a some of these alternatives.

I was thinking Key Comic Collector would have a user-input database, but it seems they dont have that functionality.

I do use CLZ, but it seems they disconnected their Value updates (which they use to pull from GoCollect) not sure what the issue was, but it does still allow for all the user-customization which is pretty robust.

@Terry88 @GeekStoxx
CovrPrice & ZapKapow also have good user-input functions.

Believe it or not, I am back to using Go Collect on just about a daily basis. I guess I am used to the “new look” and although I think they made some things harder to utilize (and/or just hid them so well you can’t find them), there were a few improvements too. They still need an Advanced Search feature (like the one MCS uses to narrow down at least the time period), and other improvements. Hopefully the next “upgrade” actually makes it more user-friendly for comic book people.

@Terry88

I had a legacy subscription and just cancelled it. I do like goCollect but the My Lists feature was a big reason why I used it. I had "queued" books for grading and this was a great way to organize them But you can't DELETE anything and can't change the names of any of my current lists unless they are "nested". Is this a problem you run in to?

I wrote to tech support and got a "we are aware of these problems" and never heard from them again.

I'm hoping they fix it.

@infinityG - To delete books from your current lists, just go to “Comics I Own” and then “My Lists.” Then put a check next to the ones you want to remove and hit the “Archive” option with the trashcan next to it.

I can't figure out how to add new lists - like for sold or traded books. I also don't like that if I look at the prices for any book, it asks me if I'd like to Watch it, Want it, or Like it, but it doesn't tell me that I already OWN it!

To be honest, I'm pretty much disgusted with all of the price guides out there. I picked a random older book, Witzend #3, and did a search for a value. Nothing is listed in Overstreet price guide, qualitycomix.com/comic-price-guide, or covrprice.

Comicspriceguide.com had this listed

comicbookrealm.com

https://www.comicsvalue.com had some good information...

and https://gocollect.com also had some good information...

As you can see nothing is all that consistent and there is no flagship... yet.

Heritage is sometimes a good source of values from their auctions. They also suggest from their website to check GoCollect Price Guide, GPAnalysis Price Guide Report, and the Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide. You can download the 2021-22 Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide, 51st Edition in a pdf format from here if you are interested. clickable text

I'm still waiting for the one best flagship which hasn't sailed into port... yet. Until then, we'll just have to bounce around and get information from multiple sources. Good luck!

I still don't like the changes to GoCollect, and I hope they are focused on improving some of the things that they broke with the last update. However, I have noticed that it is much easier to look at on a tablet, or if you shrink your browser to half width. It pushes the poster and games clutter to the bottom of the screen.

Related side note: eta nick posted a video on getting GoCollect data for free just by having a Heritage account.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHrz9DO3yOg

Vaguely related side note: I have had three different YouTube comments, on three different YouTube comic "influencer" videos, that were mildly critical of GoCollect (but on topic with the video) get deleted. I am guessing sponsorship money may be cleansing GoCollect criticism from those channels.

Thanks @esaravo but I tried that but there is no way to just delete a list. See below:

Adding a new list seems easy for me (under my comics on the right side) but I just can't delete it!

Does your dashboard look different?

Prices are all over the place, everywhere. Some prices for new books on NCBD are ridiculous too.

@infinityG - That’s what my Dashboard looks like. I can delete individual comics from existing lists, but I tried to add a list for “Sold or Traded Comics” and it didn’t work. So I am guessing they are still working out the swarm of bugs that this downgrade left them with. I do like how you can look at sold prices for CGC, CBCS, signed, qualified, and more with just a click.

@esaravo

I thought maybe there was a difference in a legacy subscription and the new subscription service.

The other thing I liked that is gone now is that if you search a specific book, it would show that you have it in your list.

If you want to add to the 'traded" or sold lists, go to the specific comic and use the 'Add to List" drop down.
