Marvel Eternals16668

Collector stanley_1883 private msg quote post Address this user
Apologies if it’s been covered already, so I’m trying to watch the Eternals as it dropped on Disney plus today. Now I love the MCU, but I’m 45 minutes in and I had to turn it off; this movie……sucks. No sugar coating that, maybe it gets better, dear Thanos I hope so, but damn. I may turn it on again, maybe not but it’s hot garbage to this point. Good acting, nothing against the cast but the writing I’ll grade that as an R for retarded. Am I crazy and this movie was great or what’s happening? 45 minutes is ample time to at least get a person interested…I would think.
This concludes my rant, thanks for coming to my TED Talk.

I recognize I'm completely alone with this remark, but I liked the Eternals movie alot; far more than the Spider-Man movie which I felt was nothing more than an homage to old characters with at least 25 eye roll moments & an assortment of dumb sequences.
Just kick me and tell me to get up after I'm stabbed through the gut with anything resembling a Goblin glider. It's like Monty Python's "It's just a flesh wound" all over again.

I think the Spider-Man movies have that cheeky/campy feel by design. I like it, then again I loved Thor Ragnarok but some people didn’t, they thought the humor was ill timed/off putting.

I liked the eternals when I saw it in theaters and plan on watching it again now that it's out on Disney plus. Liked the spiderman movie more, but eternals wasn't bad I don't think.

A few people have said they liked the movie, did you like it from the jump or was it a super slow start and then it got good?

For me personally, slow only means lack of action but it can be a buildup of a story and characterization. I often feel that marvel movies don't tell a very strong story and do not develop characters very well in some cases; instead choosing laughs and giggles and little quips over a strong story from beginning to end. They've also steered away from seriousness and drama in favor of of these jokes and quips. kind of redundant in my opinion and overtly much of the same.

Eternals was a difference from the "lets get to the action baby!" or "wow, look who just showed up in the movie". It attempted to establish characters; give them meaning and purpose, challenge them; challenge their decisions, put them in uncomfortable situations and give a little twist here and there. Well done imo.

Ragnarok and No Way Home both made me happy to have a large comic book collection. After watching those movies I wanted to buy more comic books. They both told a fairly complicated story but they were fun, the way comic books should be. I will watch Eternals and see if it has the same effect.

I thought it was kind of a slow burn but I liked it overall. It's kind of a sci-fi movie that got shoehorned into a Marvel movie. There are some old-school sci-fi 'big ideas' in there, which makes sense given the source material, but they get lost a bit because you have to have the superhero fights.

I'm 5 minutes in and wondering why the Eternals missed the whole Thanos threat, but didn't hesitate to show up when baby Carrot Top, the guy from Blindside, and McLovin showed up. The multiverse is already blowing my mind.

holy sh!t..made it through - this was waaaaay too long!!!

This should have been a 3 part series

Part 1 -intro to some - SOME - of the eternals - a deviant appears to have killed their leader, 1 Eternal then finds 2 or more all while fighting the deviants and looking into why they were told all were gone but they are still around?
aand...when baby Sue Storm tells the others that their leader died she doesn't say "it's true buddy....we lost her"
End of movie 1 big reveal - it was one of their own who killed their leader

Part 2 - find more Eternals - some have already been looking into why deviants are around and suspect something is up - bigger reveal!! Eternals are the bad guys!!! when they find out they themselves were 'made' no one just blow it off - wouldn't that be some soul searching moment??
Maybe Eternals fight Eternals because some want to keep to the plan and others want to save humanity?
You could have even had members from this other faction who want to save humans have made a cameo in Endgame

Part 3 - Good Eternals defeat bad Eternals (Game of Thrones Superman) prevent emergence and kill a Celestial - teaser - a certain purple planet eater notices something going on in our region of space and starts to make his way here?

bonus new movie......Captain Marvel Movie - Purple man and Silver dude kill Captain Marvel as they make their way to earth - also skrulls and kree

They did have some decent characters though
Game of Thrones Superman
Baby Sue Storm
Not funny Wong
Deaf Flash - waaay better than JLA Flash
Memory loss Wonder Woman
Serious Metamorpho
Irish? Brainwave
they need a Batman knock off and a fish lover to complete the set though

Also...most egregious of all....Salmas outfits were a)not form fitting enough and b) had about 80%? too much cloth
and - what's up with King of the North - his family history is "complicated"?? sure, yeah, yeah...you live with your mother and sister (same person!!)

and when the post credits say "the Eternals will return...." is that a threat??

yeah...this should have been at least 3 movies instead of 1 too long movie that tried to introduce too much all at once (and poorly)

watch 1 time - never again

I gave up and have retreated to the computer. Wife and daughter are into it...have been since the start. I told them it would not be a good movie for brother because he is 15 and has the attention span of a gnat. He has joined them and now every 5 minutes I hear the girl child yell "SHUT UP!"

it's a fine line - it's not a bad movie but at the same time not good either
They could have got to the same place in a 3hr movie by rearranging events or even better do it over 2 or 3 movies

I always go back to - will I watch it again? For this the answer is no
I mean - there are even suspense, detective/police procedurals or horror films I can watch over and over despite knowing the twists and turns and still enjoy them - this film does not fall into that category.

I think that's accurate. I watched most of it from a distance but it felt more like something that would come from DC than from Marvel. The bad guys seemed like they could have come from the Justice League movie. Both the characters and actors lacked the charisma that we came to expect from the previous MCU. GOTG also introduced a bunch of marginal characters...but they were interesting and relatable. These characters seemed kind of aloof. You could never forget that it was actors playing roles.

@stanley_1883 I would only say it's a "bad" movie relative to expectations set by some really good Marvel (MCU) movies previously. If I didn't have those good movies to compare it to I probably could have appreciated it more. I think it was my least favorite of all the Marvel movies. It was just very bland in comparison.
