this is the 2nd time in less than a year yes?

at some point CBCS will have to follow - they can raise prices and still be less than CGC- TAT's are crazy so it's not like submissions will slow down

@KatKomics
Yes 2x in less than a year seems kinda nuts, but I guess they have a strategy. Question is how will CBCS react?

CBCS should raise prices to account for inflation. If they need to raise them a bit more in order to offer higher wages to attract more potential employees, they should do that as well.

@KatKomics - Yes it is the second price increase in less than 1 year. However, CBCS has also been issuing a stealth price increase by whittling down 20% submission discounts to 15%, then 12%, then 10%, 8%, 5% and now 0 discounts for the past few months.

Additionally, CBCS also did increase pricing on 2-Day Modern and Fast Pass.

@flanders - I am hoping that they hold off for at least another six months or so to garner more market share...and so I can get my next submission in.

Well if CBCS can finally initiate "operation magazine slabs" and weather this huge influx , cbcs should look great as an alternative....

@andy49 if you’re counting from the “received” date, then yes. If from “delivered” date, then it’s about 14-16 months.

that will be the balancing act - how long do you leave prices lower to garner a larger market share - theoretically it should be worth it but inflation, supply chain issues and just the need for more bodies will eventually necessitate some sort of increase (as you say though eliminating discounts and increase on 2day have already been done)

Too bad - I have a few books needing verification and would love to see a promo but I think those days are long gone

werent they already expensive? I remember going to a convention and going to them first to do a submission. it was signed and they didnt need to authenticate without affecting grade but price was so much. I think the cost of a grade after shipping was the cost of cbcs grading, authenticating all 3 signatures and shipping (and much less for a non signed)

@KatKomics - So true, but I am in favor of their current balancing strategy. By ratcheting down their discounts, they have in essence phased in a 20% price increase over the past year and a quarter without the sticker shock. All the while garnering record breaking levels of submissions each month.

I too have some VSP ready comics that I have been holding. I suspect that the next discount we see may be the VSP variety. That is just a guess, I have no inside information of such.

In the past CGC price increases have been years apart. This comes nine months after the last one. I guess we see Blackstone's strategy in play as far as buying the company.

I would not be surprised if CBCS doesn't implement some price increases, but I rather hope that they take a longer term view and leave prices as is for a time. The difference in price is pretty large now and this gives CBCS a great opportunity to increase their market share. Market share matters. IMHO, all that holds CBCS back is seeing a lot more CBCS graded books for sale. The product - the graded books - are at least just as good and arguably better.

$39 for signed comic? Ouch. Once you add shipping, that's going to have to be one he'll of a book and sig. I can get VSP through cbcs cheaper (assuming 1 sig)

See, I was hoping this was simply a reminder e-mail about the price increase going into effect. The fact that it’s an additional increase is concerning.

I understand that inflation is very real and occasionally, prices have to go up. But when it’s on the heels of a previous increase? This sounds like greed, plain and simple.

After this, I hope that enough longtime CGC advocates jump ship to make a noticeable drop in submissions. It’s the only CGC will take notice and reconsider things.

CBCS will certainly be getting more of my business and I’m going to have to reconsider renewing my CGC membership for next year.

The previous price increase was NOT met with smiles and open arms, so what the H*## is this? If CBCS can start whittling down the TATs (not eliminating them; just start letting folks see a little progress), I think they'll wind up with a healthy chunk of CGC's clientele.
