I haven't had any bad experiences with anyone, thankfully. Some middling/'meh' ones, but nothing I would consider bad. Good ones would include Ken Lashley, Larry Hama, and Jim Steranko.

Herb Trimble to me was the nicest of the bunch of nice people I have met. First time we met him was in 2013 here in Dallas (Irving). A year and a half later, my wife was in a Starbucks line at the convention in Houston, so happen Herb and his wife, Patricia, approached my wife and asked where I was. After my wife told me, I was like I either left a really good first impression or I really bugged him and he wanted to hide from me for the rest of the con. It was a three-day con but we had to leave the 2nd day, we approached Herb to say good bye and he looked slightly disappointed to see us leave. As busy as his line was, he stopped in a middle of a sketch, walked around the table and shook our hands. My nose was up so damn high looking down at the peasants and was like “Damn straight Herb did that”.

And if I had cue music it would be this

Oh and I know what Max (Stan’s handler and scumbag)did right after Herbs passing, eff that guy.

As far as someone mentioning Michael Golden, he’s fine when he is by himself, but if that witch is in tow, be prepared to get cattle prodded. I asked for a sketch and the witch quoted me a price and tagged on an extra $50 when I told her the character I wanted. I was like yeah no as I proceed to put eh cash and the blank back into my backpack. The witch then saw the dollar signs flying away and had the audacity to “make an exception” and I made an exception to not take their exception. I have plenty of patient but my “patience is a viru” (do not give this away if you know what it is) was not dialed properly that one day.

I remember one year back in the 1990s when I was handing out copies of my Dire Wolf comic at Motor City Con, both Will Eisner and Sheldon “Shelly” Moldoff were incredibly kind and encouraging to me. Maggie Thompson is also someone I met that year who was extremely nice to me. I have talked to several industry pros over the years and I honestly can’t say anyone was ever mean to me. I have heard a few stories from others, but I have never personally had a negative experience with any creator.

Wracked my brain to think of someone who was a jerk and I finally have one: Robert Asprin. Met him at another LCS signing and he stayed after the signing to chat with us. Usually, this sort of thing would be a treat, but not this time. The nasty stuff he picked as topics of conversation... Just... NO.

Kevin Eastman was really cool as well as Jim Lee.

Neil Adams... well, he was kind of a dick. It seemed like it was all about the money for him. It was still awesome to meet him. A true comic book legend.

I met Stan Lee back in the 90's. The line was huge but he had nothing but encouragement and smiles for everyone.

I met Marshall Rogers at his convention booth, also in the 90's. Bought a couple pages from him and talked a bit about the art. He seemed a normal guy just there enjoying the con with his kid.

I met the legend, Jean Giraud (Moebius), in '92 once in the autograph line and again after purchasing one of the pieces he did for the charity auction. I was so in awe I could barely say anything. He was soft spoken and genuinely appreciative of my instant love for the piece.

Then recently, I was really irritated at how slow the autograph line for Jim Steranko was moving until I realized the reason why. He had a story for everybody! Once I got within range it was so fun to just listen to his enthusiasm and engagements that I almost forgot to hand him my book when I got to the front of the line.

I also met some guy named @sborock at the same show. He was pretty cool too. Thanks Steve for all you do, even if the TAT's are a little slow at the moment.

Herb and his wife were awesome. RIP Herb.

Earl Norem was great. Bernie Wrightson was great. Nick Carry was great.

The only person I can honestly ever say was a dick was John Byrne.

Bob Layton was a good guy to meet. He didn't charge for his signature and always had time to chat with fans. Seemed like a decent guy.

The only off-putting experiences I've can really recall were were Neal Adams and Natali Sanders. Neal was just a personality that I felt was off-putting. Reminded me of trying to interact with a car salesman if you don't look rich. Like, they really want to sell you stuff, but also don't pay you much attention when it seems like you're not gonna spend big $. Natali Sanders was just a really strange interaction; hard to explain in text, but CBCS witness was with me and we both sort of walked away like what the heck was that about? Both of these involved two people (myself and them) so I can't really say if it was something I did/said that somehow caused a bad/weird interaction. I feel like there may have been another one, but can't think of it at the moment.

Positive is essentially everyone else. From the OG generation; Joe Geilla, Al Bellman and Stan Lee to the independents like Scott Blair, Marat Mychaels, Dawn McTeigue, Bill McKay, Dan Mendoza, Piper Rudich.

I can't say I've ever had a "bad" experience with a comic creator. The closest was maybe Bob Layton. I think we just may have rubbed off on each other wrong. Nothing against him at all, though.
The nicest? A couple stand out. First off, Michael Turner (RIP). Met him multiple times and he was just the definition of a nice guy.
Howard Chaykin. I started chatting with him at his booth and after about 45 minutes I had to make myself walk away from his table or we would have spent all day talking. We just really hit it off. He even came up to say hi the next day when we were both out on the floor.
Brian Denham. Same as with Chaykin. We just really hit it off.
The night after the first day of one particular convention, I made my way to the hotel bar and hung out with the guys from Devils Due. Got really drunk and Joe Quesada comes up. I drunk rambled something about how he saved Marvel and how awesome he was. I personally would have gotten as far away from me as I could have but he thanked me and was really cool when he didn't have to be. It's been almost 20 years and I'm still embarrassed about that.

Walt and Louise Simonson were some of the nicest creators I have ever met. I loved how Walt would sign a few books, stop, and start talking about a particular book.

George Perez was incredible and appeared to be LOVING every minute of meeting his fans, signing and taking pics!!! I was saddened to hear about his condition earlier yesterday.

Larry Stroman was very friendly, and just feels like chatting with a family member you haven't seen in a long time. and he even defended the next person...

Rob Liefeld, all the people who talk bad about Rob, yet Rob ALWAYS has a smile on his face, and is very talkative to his fans. The few times I've seen Rob, the man has ALWAYS been smiling, chatty, and very outgoing. Larry Stroman pointed out Rob doesn't run his mouth, until someone verbally attacks him first.

In attending multiple conventions every single year for the last 30+ years I have become quite good friends with many of the names already mentioned on here. Enough where I have lunch and have been over their house for dinner from time to time.

There are others that have been just downright salty, foul, and in rare cases - jackasses. They've also already been mentioned on here; and there are more not mentioned on here.

Because this is public forum, I tend to keep that information private as much as, deep down, I don't want to.

Side Story: When house hunting years ago, I looked at a house for sale and noticed the owner was quite the famous comic creator. I was giddy as all heck. I'm looking at a house for sale owned by "_____"!!!! Holy cow I thought to myself. At a signing event, I got to the creator, mentioned I looked at their house for sale as conversational, and got the coldest response one could imagine. Some people.

I met Rob Liefeld in Pittsburgh. Sold him some treasuries. He was very nice. I even asked him if he was going to charge me $20 to sign the credit card receipt. He just smiled and laughed.

Yeah, Max was a toad. I remember the Golden sketch. I also remember the sketch that my friend ended up getting from Bill Sienkiewicz that was a thinly veiled penis with a cock ring in it. At that point, I could only surmise that it was Bill's self portrait.

On the super nice list…
Mike Zeck
Matt Wagner
George Perez
Ed McGuinness
Mike DeCarlo
Chance Wolf
Greg Capullo (his wife is just a wonderful person too)
Kevin Eastman
Tim Sale (very professional and willing to answer questions while he was doing my commission for 30 minutes)
Rob Liefeld
Mike Grell (he did a fantastic blank cover for me. We had a very nice conversation too.)
David Fench
Steven Hughes - R.I.P.
James O’BARR (rushed but nice)

Not so nice…
Only one and was an utter __. I don’t dress up at conventions and worn a cheap beat-up Suunto watch that’s been to 2 war zones. I asked about a commission. The guy, I won’t name, looked me up and down and decided I had no money. Then proceeded to chime in about his time being valuable and that he didn’t do them for free. He glanced at the female sitting next to him, she rolled her eyes, and smirked. I decided that I’d not be getting a commission right then. So, I pulled out my convention cash roll from my pocket. I believe I had about 3000.00 in hundreds on me and while fanning them said, “You mean like this”? I stuffed it back in my pocket and walked off. I’ve never bought anything the guy has worked on since that short encounter.

Through email on the nice list…
Todd McFarlane and his son. I had a wonderful experience with both buying an item! I got way more than I paid for when the package arrived.

I was going to mention her, but I couldn't remember he name....what a nasty person. She was also running the James O'Barr booth one time and nobody could bother James unless you gave her money for an autograph. Her role seemed to be just as a mouthpiece to drum up business for his raffle so he could focus on sketching...

Our local LCS was going to bring in O'Barr for a convention, but they opted not to after dealing with her. I'm sure she thinks she's an excellent business woman considering the appearances she gets for doing very little of relevance in the industry.

Thankfully, I've never had a bad encounter, though some are definitely friendlier than others. The nicest ones I recall were Scott Snyder, Jim Lee, Tyler Kirkham, Bill Sienkiewicz, Ed Brubaker, Greg Rucka and Brian Michael Bendis. Snyder is the one that I recall seeming the most excited and appreciative of fans. Been pretty lucky in my encounters with creators, thankfully.
