There's another He Man promo insert graded!! on auction at MCS

clickable text

How in the world can this be graded? it was part of another comic and removed
Is it like a graded page?? I just don't get it.

Should I be buying the cheap beat up copies of comics that have the inserts - take them out - get CGC to grade them and sell them??

@KatKomics - Interesting. I have a few Mad Magazine Super Specials that have replica comics of Mad comics from the 1950’s as inserts. I wonder if they would have any value if they were removed and graded. MCS sells the specials with and without the insets, but I don’t recall ever seeing just the inserts for sale.

Maybe I'm crazy. I know that ASM #300 has been shooting up in value. But this seems way over the top to me?

Not everyone does their due diligence when bidding with certain sellers.

Does eBay do gift cards? Or people got a lot of Christmas money anyway, because today I got four offers on random things I had listed. Lots of boxes going to the post office on Monday.

@xkonk - If you didn’t get any comics from your family for Christmas, you might as well buy some for yourself! Enjoy the sales, Alex, because January can be a slow period once everyone starts paying off the debt they accumulated during November and December.

@xkonk - Yes, there are ebay gift cards, plus there is also the casharooski gifts.

The ebay seller that wants "serious bidders only" got me once. Funny how the same books keep popping up. Probably has more than one account and using to push prices up.

You can click on the bid history of these, then click on the bidder that appears to be driving them up and see their bid history. You'll see that a lot of these appear to be shill bidders, but they're given a positive review of the person they're shill bidding for if they accidentally win. Cycle repeats...

I like to occasionally go on ebay and just type in "CBCS", "CGC", or "PGX". Sort by ending soonest and occasionally, someone has spelled something wrong or has a low number of ratings and you can get some deals.

So I won a raw SA Adventure Comics in an eBay auction last night and promptly paid for it. Well I just got an email saying my payment was refunded to my PayPal account, and when I checked my eBay account the seller had sent me a message that he canceled the transaction because he just discovered the book was damaged. Should I believe him, or is this just BS because he wasn’t happy with the auction price?

That really sucks. You can report him if it makes you feel better, however I don't think you have any true recourse. I would say walk away and try and forget it.

@Bronte It does report automatically. It will be on his seller record as a blemish. Not sure if that is visible to the public but at least it can spot a pattern over time if that's the case.

That's good to know. Ebay is so skewed in its logic I sometimes have difficulty following how they arrive to their decisions. I've mostly given up on it and try and walk away. I find it's not worth the frustration. But I really hate that the seller don't contact you first to let you know there's an issue before cancelation. You would think it is a common courtesy type thing.

@00slim the other listings from this seller seem ok. Maybe it's a mistake. I sent a message asking what If the auction winner will receive a CGC graded comic.

Question. Do they still have to pay sellers fee if they cancel out of auction?
Post 25 IP   flag post
Collector 00slim private msg quote post Address this user
@Bronte The fee gets credited to their account. It’s subtracted from that month’s fees.

I always find it odd that the item has damage but it was never caught before listing and only when it sells. I'm assuming you won for a decent price, Ed. I've never had someone cancel the order when it's been FMV or better.

It could be B.S. if you got a killer deal on it.

To be fair, it is at least possible. I once sold a sealed AF 15 reprint for like $40-$50. When I went to pack it, I found the seal on the polybag was broken. It was still NM, but not sealed as I’d advertised. No clue how the seal was broken. I bought it sealed myself & never opened it.

Anyway, I notified the buyer to see how they wanted to proceed? They could get a full refund, a partial + the item? Or, as-is? They had no problem with it, so, I shipped it the same day.

Point is, I let the buyer decide before refunding. I wish your seller had extended you the same courtesy.

@00slim - It was Adventure Comics #350 and it was listed as being in VF condition. The seller had quite a few issues of this series up for auction, and I put four of them on my watch list. The opening bid for #350 was $19.99, not cheap, but fair if the book was VF. What I liked about the seller was that he included front and back cover photos, as well as inside both back and front covers, and an interior photo. So he obviously had flipped through all the books to take the pictures. I have a G/VG copy of this issue that I would like to upgrade, and I was willing to spend around $25 for this copy. You can find a few online dealers that have similar raw books in the $30-40 range in 8.0. Prices go up more quickly at higher grades. When I checked in yesterday on the four books, they all had at least one bid. I bid on two other books, but dropped out when the prices went about $30 for one (it went for $45) and $40 for another (a semi-key book, and one I don’t have a copy of, but it was also in lower grade) that went for $75. I decided not to bid on a third book because it wasn’t much better than my copy (it sold for $17 and change). I bid $21.49 for the #350 and was the new high bidder. With a few seconds left, I bumped up my bid to try to avoid being sniped for a buck or two. I was informed I won the book for $21.49, without shipping and paid for it. I have no idea if he honored the sales of the other books or not. Maybe I can check the sold listings and see. I might just end up buying a CGC 9.2 copy of this issue that I know about. The only thing holding me back is the very tip of the lower left front corner is either missing or bent over. It would bug me if it’s bent over in the holder.

@esaravo what I dislike about their story is not communicating and giving you an option on how to proceed.

That strikes me as either poor judgment or shady…

Sorry if I missed it but did they send photos of the newly discovered damage?
