What do you ladies and gents think this might be? It looks almost like some type of ribbon in the paper like a hundo security marker. It lies flat but you can feel the surface difference. One person has told me a roller mark, that would make sense but it isn't mirrored on the back. It's as if the whole wrap was open and flat and continues the same way on the back.

Well. I thought it was clearly visible. I zoomed in because I took it to capture the angle. I have more pics if you can contribute.

Post more pictures and I can contribute. I want to see the book without all the glare. You're awful cranky tonight. Did you not eat your beets?

It's a roller mark since it's on the same place front and back. The top roller had more pressure than the bottom as that was the roller that pulled it through the equipment.

That is WAY too flat/undamaged for a bundling ridge, but the placement is spot-on. How was this book being stored?

PS: Want your gorgeous X-Men #94; it's about 10x nicer than my tweaked one!

Yeah, it isn't bundling damage or the edges would have been bent.

This is the best I can do. Photography isn't my bag. I didn't even see whatever this is until it was in my possession. Mostly it just appears to flash in the light.

You would never see this on a scan, thats why I'm anti scan pics on purchasing raw books..

It's definitely machine made from the printing process. It's too straight and uniform without breaking the spine.

I'm still going with a roller mark from the printing process.

woudn't it be a mirror image on the back???? It continues on as if the whole book was flat.

Roller marks I've come across are parallel or I guess perpendicular with the cover. This would be the first diagonal, I'm baffled. Its a beautiful book, trust me, but there has to be a definitive.

Someone wake up Rickettes

My point exactly. Aside from the same placement as a bundling ridge, it has no other indication that's what it is.

How would you have a perpendicular roller mark? Books are like newspapers and fed through spine first to create the fold. That's why printer's creases run horizontal.

@DrWatson is right, I think. Prior to binding/stapling, the cover with pages lie flat in a stack. Then they get stapled and folded. Anytime before the folding, something could have happened to make a mark like that. Also, during the actual folding process, but I thought it was more than one set of rollers in the centre doing that.

Exactly, Ive only ever seen parallel with the spine. I was sighting perpendicular to demonstrate the absurdity that a roller mark was diagonal.

So... So far we are going with some type of lashing together repercussions from back in the day? I never thought of that one.

No. I don't much like Gordon Ramsay. He's belittling, even if it is just for television. Must some truth in it as no one is that good of an actor.

@DrWatson That will do! He's also better looking AND he doesn't risk spraying into the food by losing his temper and screaming.
