eBay insurance not enough15230

What do you all do when the item you're shipping is $7000 and the buyer is willing to pay for the higher insurance? It appears eBay will only offer up to $1000 in coverage. Any advice?

There should be a drop down that allows you to choose usps insurance instead of the default insurance. That will allow you to insure up to the max of the auction.

The problem I ran into with FedEx was that they have their insurance in categories, and their "Collectible" category insurance maxes out at $2K, I think. Maybe it was 1K, but I was mailing my IH 181 to MCS and i sure as hell wanted it insured for more & FedEx wouldn't do it.
Basically they said if something DID happen that they wouldn't guarantee it because a "fair replacement value" could not be established on a "collectible" due to price fluctuations.

Ironically, if you ship a computer(s) their limit max is $50,000.00

I bit my tongue finally and just sent it and hoped there wouldn't be a fire while in transit or some kid in the back watching me pack my stuff putting it in his car when no one was looking, etc.

@dfoster43 Yes, for me if you buy insurance with UPS they state it doesn't cover used or refurbished items, and I really hope none of my keys are "refurbished". I'd look into collectable specific insurance.

You can use pirateship.com and they have a 3rd party insurance provider you can use to insure USPS stuff.

Then just add the tracking # to the sale later.

I've done this; works fine. Sometimes I even get my choice of insurers (USPS or some other company that I assume eBay has over a barrel).

I've done this before too; works fine. You can put pretty much whatever number you want down on the USPS site if you print the shipping label ahead of time.

@xvipah

I don't think they insure raw comics.
