I've found out through a friend that Collectable Cases is going to be selling a new case designed especially for graded comics. It will reportedly be capable of holding up to 50 slabs. It is supposed to go on sale next week. That's all I know at this point.

Pretty awesome case.

Although I would imagine it's unwieldy. I can't imagine trying to lug that thing around unless it has wheels.

Good for transportation, but I don't see it for daily stowage if you have several hundred slabs.

Pretty heavy duty case but depending on price I'd probably pass. I like my slab boxes.

Basically a Pelican case for slabs. It will be super sturdy, very heavy, and crazy expensive! It will probably cost more than the four slabs in the pictures, but if you travel with highly valuable comics (say to and from big conventions) it will probably be worth it.

Water tight is a selling feature for sure šŸ‘

I am assuming it will be about $390+

The included slabs alone are worth way more than that šŸ˜‰

Looking at the Pelican site, it looks like a modified iM3075 Storm Transport Case, which is about $400. Add in the modifications for comics, it will probably be in the $500 price range. It does have built-in wheels, and weights about 45 pounds empty (with foam).

If this case was fire proof on top of what's listed, this would something to buy....still very cool and useful on being water tight alone.

If you were to simply treat as a safe for your slabs, this is pretty cool.

I wonder, if the ā€œambient pressure relief valveā€ would be adequate for long term storage off-gassing?

It was an old case I bought at a garage sale years ago that had--no joke--a ventriloquist dummy inside.

I just use it for storage. It actually fits inside a large safe. Barely.

I wouldn't use it for long term storage. It might have the same problems as a fireproof safe in regards to humidity....

@Bronte good point! maybe being fireproof is actually detrimental to slabbed books?

There was a long thread years ago on the cgc boards where a guy stored his expensive graded books in a safe and it caused the staples to start rusting.

It's tacked on the top of the CGC forums and was started by Borock.

@Bronte @DrWatson Thanks guys! I'll check it out.

Do you think the case above is safe for long term storage? I keep my books in my basement, climate controlled and off the floor. My biggest fear is fire but also flooding. If the above case is safe for long term storage I'd consider it.

Edit: Its an interesting read across the street. Looks like fireproof safes contain high humidity causing rusty staples.

They have card cases that they seem to imply is ok for long term storage....unsure if that's the case for comics.

I wouldn't do it unless you pack some type of damp rid type solution with it.

If you keep your books in a safe and live in a humid state, put a couple of these in with your books.

Luckily I live in a state that always ranks in the top-10 for least humidity, so very cool and dry. I sometimes shake my head that CGC chose to set up shop in one of the most humid states in the country.

I think the only thing that is really missing is the handcuff to secure to your wrist when travelling with it.

I buy these cases at harbor freight for around $20. It has padding that I use either add or remove to give the books a firm fit. I use it when I go to cons, buying books or taking books to sell. Not perfect but it works for me. I also keep my more expensive books in a jewelers safe. It weighs 900 lbs empty. I've had my books in it for 30 years and no issues with rust. I also carry insurance just for my books but with this market I'm going to have to increase the value

Iā€™m curious to know the fundamental difference between a gun safe & a Jewelers safe as far as how theyā€™re constructed?

Iā€™m sure the packaging reads:

*Handcuffs not included.
